It is (nearly) the season of goodwill, so I have decided to do something that will benefit both charity, and an OOF member. Please read on for more information.
I am running a raffle, with the winner being rewarded by having an ENTIRELY free cambelt kit change, this means the parts and travel costs are also free. I will stump up the parts and fuel costs personally - you pay nothing.
1) To be eligible, you must be within a 100 mile radius of Cheltenham, OR be prepared to come to Cheltenham.
2) Offer is open to ALL 2.5 and 3.0 V6 owners. Unfortunately I can't offer any other model.
3) This work is fully insured, as with anything undertaken by my business.
4) This sevice is offered and run by www.omegamechanic.co.uk and is not regulated, overseen by or affiliated with OOF. That said - I have chosen that This offer is only open to members of this forum
5) To take part in this raffle, a ticket costs £6.50 and is payable by Paypal only.
6) At the end of the raffle, I will donate every penny recieved (with the exception of the very small paypal fees) directly to Cancer research. I will scan and upload to the forum a receipt confirming this, and confirming the total amount raised.
7) Winner will be chosen completely at Random, by software. Everyone has an equal chance. Winner will be notified via PM and the result will also be published on public forum. Winner then liaises with me to set a mutally agreeable time for the cambelt change.
8) Tickets must be purchased by 23:59 on Friday 5th December. The winner will be announced before the end of Saturday 6th December.
9) This offer includes the cambelt kit, and fitting. If you would like to change your water pump and auxiliary belt at the same time, you will need to supply these, and they will also be fitted free of charge.
This is a geniune offer, and again, is only open to OOF members.
I appreciate it requires an element of trust, however I will publically evidence amounts received, and receipt of payment to the charity.
To order your e-ticket, please PM me to obtain payment details. Upon payment, an e-ticket will be issued to your paypal email account within 24 hours
Good luck!

What about 2.6 and 3.2?
-
What about 2.6 and 3.2?
The kits I have in stock have concentric idlers. If you have a fixed lower idler, I can't do it :y
-
:y
PM sent.

:y :y :y
No Cem, you can't buy a ticket ;D
-
:y :y :y
You are a bit too far away Cem from winning on this one!! ::) ::) ::)
Within 100 miles of Cheltenham......!! ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;)
Nice one though James for a great cause! :y :y :y :y :y :y
-
CEM a trip to turkey then for james is it lol!
-
thats the most beautiful thing I've read all year - or maybe its the 12 bottles of becks I've scooped in the last hour?
well done James - giving your time and energy to a good cause :y :y
too far away to participate tho :(
-
pm sent :y excellent cause :y
-
I can't :(
-
Hi James, thats a great idea :y
Just a thought thou, why not publish a map with your 100 mile radius on it, so members can see the capture area straight away rather than having to search them selves.
Also would you get a better response if members outside the area where to come to you (its all for a good cause).
Chris.

Chris.
If anyone wants to come to me - then you are welcome to participate, regardless of where you live. Initial post amended :y
-
Am I the first to get my £6.50 paid?
Of course, I paid the paypal fee. I don't want to have an invalid ticket... :o
C'mon people - I am in a raffle of 1 right now... :) ;D 8-)

Yep - you are indeed the first.
Doesn't matter how many I do or don't get - it will go ahead anyway -
But if nobody else signs up, then Bandit is getting a cheap cambelt kit change ;D
-
Compromise.?
What ifa 2.6 owner supplies the kit then that saves you money and gives the 2.6 owner a free Cambelt service.
Also what about people over 100 miles from you, what if they paid the extra traveling costs.
or
Can the winner from anywhere in the country meet up with you at one of the meets and recieve thier prize at a later date?
Just a few ideas which may well in turn raise more money. :y :y
I am happy to buy a ticket for the sake of the charity (please PM the details) but sadly live more than 100 miles from you.

If only mine was in a fit state to get to Cheltenham.....really must put aside some time to track down a local mechanic for Mr Thrust Washer
-
my car doesn't have a cambelt and i dont have a paypal account but if i buy a ticket and win can i auction it off and pass on the proceeds to the cause?
-
James....
Whilst I commend the concept behind the ideal, I would recheck the legalities of a lottery on an internet forum, particularly given your 'own time' interests....
-
:y :y :y
No Cem, you can't buy a ticket ;D
:'( :'(
seriously congrats for this brave job :y

I think neither James nor people get money so no lottery imho.. :-/

Cem - the word 'lottery' has a legal meaning in UK legislation. To purchase a 'ticket' (or a chance to win a competition) must have some legal safeguards for all parties involved. To my eye, the method that is suggested in this thread is outside the law and thus leaves all involed (including OOF as the facilitators) liable to prosecution. I ask that James verifies all legalities before continuing....

Ack = wasn't aware there would be any inplications of this nature, given the business is insured for such activities, and the post clearly states OOF has no involvement in this :-[
I must be honest, in as much as I didn't forsee a legal issue - but, please note this is currently "on hold" until checked out further.
If it transpires that we cannot proceed, I will refund the two members who have participated...
Brucie - please can you drop me a PM with the specific bit of legislation you're concerned about?
Cheers
James

The following link, whist not directly to legislation, does give a laypersons summation of the processes and requirements involved...

Ok - it was a nice thought, but unfortunately this isn't going to proceed.
The one person who has participated (paid) has been refunded in full.
Must say - I thought it would be ok, based on the fact there is no cash prize, and given that it was clearly stated that it was I running this, and in no way affiliated OOF, I couldn't see how OOF could be responsible for anything.
I don't have time to check it out in great detail, so although a nice idea, unfortunately this little fundraising charity idea will now not go ahead.
In the scheme of things, it would just be easier if I donate some cash to charity :y

Hotel21. Would James avoid the legal obligations on himself and the forum by calling it a 'raffle'?
Only, I like the idea of what he is doing - even if it does get him some free publicity. Surely that's what charity is about.

I thought seeing as it was privately run by me with all proceeds to charity it would be OK. I will take Broocie's advice on this one, and call it off.
It's not free publicity. It would cost me at least £100 for the bits and travel alone. I could get a newspaper ad for that. It was literally all geared up for charity.
Therefore, just easier if I donate that directly to charity, and avoid the work :y
-
Its the kind of thing that would work well if done at an OOF meet, whereby raffle tickets (cloakroom tickets) are purchased for the main prize which is drawn on the day. Anything else (subject to some more precise knowledge) would require legal permissions....
I really do not want to be the baddy in the matter - I have more personal knowledge of cancer effects than most - but we all must ensure that the collective 'we' which is OOF is not drawn into something that has an effect on what OOF is intended for.
thanks for your understanding.... :y :y
-
Its the kind of thing that would work well if done at an OOF meet
Can we look into that further, next time we have one?

If you have a look at the link I posted previosly for a 'small lottery' then, I think, all will be covered.... ;)

I must admit - I had no idea this area was such a minefield :'(

Please do not get m wrong, I fully support your efforts. Just want to be sure we do not shoot ourselves in the foot in the process...
-
Good on you James for what i think is a cracking idea. Your heart's obviously in the right place & well intentioned. It's a shame legal guidelines have a bearing on the forum & prevent fundraising but i guess we must adhere....sometimes the law is A ass!!! :( :y
-
How about we all donate freely (via James) to James's chosen charity with no strings or inducements .......
James, keep a note of donators ... for your own records ( maybe to send "thank you" notes ::) )
Coincidentally one of them wants a cambelt service done .....
Mates rates, of course .........
Get my drift !

Yep, I fully agree mate. I also apreciate your input because I really didn't know there was any legislation preventing such things on this scale :y

I do get your drift, 12 months ago I'd have done it too, but unfortunately it's not something I could chance anymore.

Cant have people illegally donating to charity, what would the super say? ;D
-
H21... Bah humbug :P :P :D :D :D
Seriously though... Glad this was sorted before it got OOF into trouble.
James... Great idea and fantastic gesture though. I'm sure that it would be quite popular at a meet :y :y
-

purpose of the regs is to safeguard those who donate their hard earned in good faith to those who want the funds for a purpose other than advertised...
Not that I countenance for an instant that this would be likely in the matter in hand....

In reality, I'm not sure this would happen. Worst case, something goes wrong and I fix it. I would think any comeback would have been on me.
Irrelivent now though anyhow...

I dont know. He looks a bit shifty to me.

Seems a shame to me but rules are rules whether we like it or not, or agree which i don't if a charity goes without. Shame though. ::)

Guy, you know perhaps know more than most how close this particular charity is to my heart...
Without wanting to set a precedent, if its done by PM and nowt on open forum..........
However the original poster indicates that this would not be the best option....

Nope, unfortunatly I'm not prepared to do it on the quiet. If it's in the slightest bit questionable, I just can't do it :y

James - I am sending you £6.50 back as a donation to your chosen charity. No strings attached. Or cambelt attached either. :y
H21 - bah humbug. I appreciate that you have the best interests of the forum at heart an you are doing a good job, but this was not likely to ever go pear shaped. :(

Yup, hear what you say and fully agree....
....but would you be willing to potentially chip in the either the a) fine or b) excess in any lawsuit gone wrong?
(not that it would James, just being Devils Advocate...) ;)
-
When living with my parents I used to do door to door collecting for CRC - did quite well as well.
All preventative - it is what I fear most
-
Note - I was official - blue collecting container
-
James, FFS don't send me £6.50 back again otherwise Paypal is the only one to make anything out of tonight's efforts. £0.42 each rather time.
I hereby authorise you to act on my behalf to donate my given £6.50 to a charity of your choice. I do not require a receipt. I merely require that you inform me, by PM, of the receiving charity.
Thanks,
Jim
-
James, I would check with the charity that you intended to donate to, they will have most of the answers and may suggest a way foward on this?
-
Can't we all drop a few quid in a pot to collectively pass to the charity?

just joking as i was happy to make a donation to a cause that has been promoted in such a way that you was willing to :y a cambelt is no good to me so i thought auctioning it would raise a bit more money ;)
hopefully problems i do have with my tractor will be cured tommorrow when i finish piecing together my tractor lump after replacing fuel pump today. it had eml light on and code 81 which should have been cured when i replaced injectors. so now all fuel lines, sender unit and lift pump in tank, fuel filter and it's housing have all been checked or replaced. all wires have been tested for breaks. if the fault is not somewhere in fuel pump then i will still have a sick tractor that will have to come off road and broke or go to a specialist and cost more than its worth.
