Hi,
I have just found a chip on e-bay for the X30XE which is a replacement for the current one in the ecu... item No.140283453921, claims to increase bhp upto 232hp and improve fuel consumption...
Does anyone know anything about these, i.e do they work, will it cause damage to engine etc, or that they are infact OK ???

some chips are better than others. however, I think a 25bhp improvement is a bit optimistic

Seem to remember a thread on this recently... TBH I wouldn't bother. The 3.0 mig is perfectly powerful enough for everyday driving and I can't see any benefit from chipping. I find there's plenty of poke for playing when required but still nice and refined for every day use.
Any potential economy gains will be lost by the increase in insurance premium for an engine modification of this type.

my collins chip forced my engine to run bloody rich! rich to the point of it smoked constantly! with my standard ecu chip it doesnt smoke!
The Boy can you recommend a descent chip then?

Tried two Chips on my 3.0 MV6, first was a 'Superchip', which seemed to give a slight improvement off the mark and made it feel quite responsive at 70 and upwards and about the same on MPG.
The second Chip, the one I’m trying now is a 'Courtney', which seems to make it slightly sluggish off the mark compared to the Superchip but then does a catch up at Mid to High revs. The Courtney definitely gives an improved MPG, gives around 34 to 38 on a normal run (Manual as well).
I acquired both chips for next to nothing, but I think I would be quite disappointed if I had to pay the full few hundred quid that the Manufactures ask for when comparing their performance increase.
Keep meaning to put the original Vauxhall Chip back in to see if I miss anything, but not too sure how long those alloy lugs on the ECU cover are going to last before breaking off!

Hi,
a Chip only gives a slight improvement relating to the response and a slight better acceleration when in lower drive region (1000 - 3000). Usually you have to choose higher octane fuel with a chip.
I have once read that the 3.0 24V engine responded quite well with a tuned fuel power boost valve like this one on e-bay: Item number: 310032784768
Does anybody has any experience with that valve?

Buy the e-bay one, it increases power, increases fuel economy and is half the price of named ones.
I have an e-bay one AND an M-tek one, they both give the same increases over standard but e-bay one cost me £39 and M-Tek £120
Its been on a few rolling roads and they both give approx 20bhp increase

aye i spoke to someone a newent about the eBay chip and they recomended it! was thinking about fitting a 4bar Fuel pressure reg but thought its a waste of money..... but the vectra GSi has a 3.8 bar FPR so maybe it does not sure

Something I've always wondered is in the event of an accident would a loss adjuster go as far as to examine the ECU for an undeclared chip modification or in the 2.5 case look for 3Ltr cams to try and get out of paying a claim? :-/

They'll do anything to get out of paying a claim Tony. But, as usual, it's down to economics. If you shunt someone and it is a small claim, likelihood is they'll settle. But push a bus load of schoolkids over a cliff.............. ;D

Fuel Pressure Regulator i think..... the X30XE has a 3.0bar fuel pressure regulator fitting a 4 bar one i think!!! increases the fuel into the engine its something the VVOC lads do to there V6's and the gsi vectra has the X30XE's FPR aswell as cams and a few other things

not sure bigger fpr is necessary for Omega, as the flowrate of the injectors is not a restriction.

Ive got a brand new 4.0 Bar Reg sat doing nothing, still in its sealed packet! I cant decide if I should
A) Sell it
or
B) fit it! ;D
The 3.8's were fitted to the 2.6 vecs, so I assume they were fitted to the 2.6 and 3.2 omegas? And I know that the 3.8's are a LOT cheaper than the 4.0 Bar Regs. :o

Correct. Upping the fuel pressure will simply cause the ECU to trim the fuel back to compensate. Total waste of money unless you have already tuned the engine to the point where the injectors are running out of flow. I can't see that happening until you've made extensive modifications elsewhere, not just a chip change.
