Title: Cam and Crank Loctking
Post by: ScottieMV6 on 25 November 2008, 23:25:14
Right...........

Just bought the V6 Cam Belt DVD from OOF shop. Watched it through twice and feel confident that I can do the job myself now.

Couple of questions............does the cam locking kit and the crank locking kit come as one or are they 2 separate kits? Does the little tool for checking the timing come with the kit also?

Also is there anyone on this forum who will loan a kit to a member with less than 500 posts or do I have to post like mad before I can get my hands on one?? ;D Obviously I would be willing to pay a deposit which could be returned once I return the kit. :y

Everything you need is in the one kit. BTW, it would help if you supplied your location next to your screen name. If you're near to someone with a kit, they may feel more inclined to hire it out to you.  :y

you will need to source the big (30mm iirc) swan neck spanner, although if you were borrowing a kit from someone ,chances are they would lend that as well. :y

Perhaps you could let me know how good it is? I would happily pay that price to have one for myself.

I know that Captain and we had no problems with either of them, but I have read on here that the Lazer type have caused a few problems :y

There have been a couple of instances of the castings on the Laser kits being inaccurate, to the point that the crank locking tool doesn't connect with the water pump. This may have been down to only a single faulty batch, of course.

I have one and, whilst clearly built to a price compared to a SP kit, it does the job. If I had my time again, I would probably troll ebay for the occasional cheap SP kit that comes up.

If you buy a laser kit, don't hesitate to return it if it doesn't fit well.
