just to clarify, i, in no way do i recommend Dyson, the washing machine we have had for the past 5 years has been repaired 12 times and rebuild twice.
hmmmm, gonna get Zanussi next time
-
Is it just me, or are they hideously ugly too?
-
And ridiculously overpriced?
-
We had a dyson hoover - only lasted a year before it gave up the ghost - bought another half the price, works just as well and has lasted twice as long - Zanussi are best for washing machines.
-
get a Miele!
-
Sue has one - pretty good but needs new dampers
-
I'd buy another Dyson cleaner, i've had two in 15 years & the second one's still going strong (apart from the hose has split).
I swear buy Hotpoint washers, i've always had Hotpoint & i find them very reliable. The one previous only had a new pump in 11 years & the programmer went in the end. My current one is three years old now & still going strong :y

Interesting, I guess yours don't get that much heavy use.
Hotpoint I have found really crap, the bearings fail, the motors eat brushes and the plastic tubs cant even keep the bearing carriers in place! (I have had 2 plus have to look after the mother in laws and my mothers!)
As for the Dyson, they suffer from poor plastics and a very poor motor design that is a bit prone to burning out. This to me is no surprise as it takes 10's of years to refine such processes and design techniques and hence why the cheaper cyclone vacuums are not only as good but often better and definitely more reliable.

That makes me sound like a right dirty bugger ;D
I do live alone, no family, so i guess they don't get as much use as your house ;)

I've had a couple of Dyson vacuums and they've had alot of abuse like cleaning up plaster dust and the secret is to change the filters regularly, infact my original Dyson vacuum is used to clean the car out and I fix the nozzle to my power tools to suck the wood chipping up ::)

And prolly why the motor burnt out in the one i had.......just over 2 years and over £300 to buy, used once a week for the whole house >:(
I got a upright cycline VAC now......seems to be lasting.....
As for washing m/c's and dishwashers both mine are Bosch and about 15yrs old.....still going stong.....I changed the pump in the washing m/c because it became noisey.....but thats the only thing for both of them......both used about 4 times a week.
:y
-
The Bosch machines are/were the high end Hotpoints....so the same applies!
-
I have a Dyson washing machine - only had to call them out once in 4 years and that was to fix the wheel at the front when I moved house as it collapsed due to the weight of the machine.
It will probably expire now that I have sung it's praises lol.
-
And on top of all the comments made Dysan pulled the plug on production because they had too many complaints.

They just dont make em like they used to. They make them to just do the job and then fail.
Example for me recently was my Hitachi 26" TV bought when I was 22, parted with it last year after 24 years heavy use (Min 16 hours daily) and is still going. Only had to replace transfprmer due to on/off switch getting used twice daily.
Cant imagine Hitachi making a TV that will perform the same these days.

I have an LG washing machine (only had it a year).., had a Bosch one previously & it only lasted 3 years, in the reviews Hotpoint don't always do so well so being sensible I went for a new brand with no reviews at all ha ha! It can be a bit funny about weight distribution (the one time I tried to get Jue in it) but overall am very happy with it.
Got a Creda washing machine that is just about to be permanently retired.., after 18 years it deserves it. Will get anything big and chrome/silver I can find (limit on the combination of the two but I refuse to get white).
For Hoovers once my ex reclaimed my beloved Kirby (defo the best cleaning most long lasting hoover around) I just get any old cheap one knowing full well I will loose all the brushes and need to replace it anyway. Did have a Dyson when they first came out but found it a good way to buy expensive cheap n nasty lol.

They're Vacuums and Hoover is a make :P
Sorry, one of my pet hates ;D

Creda and Hotpoint are the same company.....all formerly owned by GEC and now part of Indesit.

Had a Kirby and got a Dyson.
Kirby was crap, Certainly not worth the money they want for them. Also my mate swore by Kirby, funny thing is he also now has a Dyson.

.....
Hotpoint I have found really crap, the bearings fail, the motors eat brushes .....
Our first washer was a Hotpoint and it last the best part of 20 years, it had a set of brushes near to the end of it's life. :y
-
my mum won a zanussi jetsystem washing machine in a competition several years ago and its retail price was over £500, and one of the best washing machines she's ever had!!
-
My Dad bought a Vorwerk Vacuum cleaner after much pestering from my Mum as they are really good for asthmatics. You have to have a Sales person come round your house as they are only sold direct. I think it was about £400 nearly 20 years ago but we've still got it and I must admit when I move out and need my own I will be buying one myself.
-
Dyson engineer said it needed a compleate rebuild, 3rd one its had, he said would cost £350 for the parts, we would have to pay labour of £85 and they would supply parts, so thats £435 to sort it.
so we asked the engineer to ask his boss if they would buy the heap of junk back, he asked him and they offered us £180 for it, i said yes, i may as well put a couple of hundred to it and buy a new one

Reverse of that, almost :D
Got a Kirby G4 and a Dyson
Kirby is over 8 years old and still going strong, Dyson is 4 years old and never missed a beat :y

We've had Dyson hoovers and gave up with them. They don't seem to last five minutes. Now we've got a Henry (Numatic?) bombproof and will hoover up anything, dust, solid, liquid anything! Not so good looking but absolutely bombproof :y
As for washing machines, my Mum had an Ariston washer/dryer (gasp) which lasted for eighteen years :o This deputised for my family, my two sisters families and my Gran over the years and washed and dried without a hitch. Washer/driers are supposed to be bad news but....
Humpy

We had one of these in the halls of residence at university. Indestructible. You can only imagine what it went through (or what went through it!). Never missed a beat.

Whilst I agree with your comments the 'Henry' will not pick up liquid, others in the range will. :y
