Congratulations Dave,
Welcome to the club. ;D

..........and?
-
maybe its that Omega with the full running gear of a Lotus Carlton [smiley=thumbsup.gif]
-
C'mon Dave! Spill the beans!!!
-
Right I'll tell them:
1994, L-reg Omega 2.0 GLS. Beige, cloth seats (slightly ripped) and auto box (which is slipping). Has had a conversion to the sunroof so it is now a fold back full length job, which is suprisingly nice. Has steel wheels yes, but the hub caps are really nice (they spin round when stationary, which looks cool). The engine uses a fair bit of oil, but I told Dave we could probbaly sort that at the same time as the leaking radiator. The manifold should be an easy repair too. The only down sifde is the slight vandalism, particularly the windscreen, but as the surronding bodywork is quite tidy apart from the usual rust, it is just a new windscreen there. Should be up to MoT standard fairly easily once the wishbones have been donw and the new discs are fitted, again the only downside is the read brakes and the shocks, but again an nice easy replacement.
All in all a total heap, but Laidback and I both have determination that this will be a gem.
EDIT:
Sorry, a few details wrong! ;D
See below>>>>>>
-
Uuuummmm! I'm at a bit of a loss as to why buying an early model 2.0 Omega, (even though it has a full length sunroof!), would be the cause for so much joy!!
Am I missing something here?
-
Mr McB possibly 'pulling your leg' !
-
Mr McB possibly 'pulling your leg' !
It's not difficult really, I believed it when someone told me they were taking the word 'Gullible' out of the dictionary!!
-
Who me? Naaaaaaaaah!
Trust me boys & Girls. Laidback has all the skills necessary to turn his purchase into a lovely car. (just as well really)
-
Dave,
If what Finlay says is true, and you don't want them, can I have the spinny hubcaps?!?!?!
-
Yes folks, like Finlay I too have bought an Omega. :)
Perhaps it was this ;D

Well collected the wee beastie now (Fin, can you sort a few pics please mate?)
It is a facelift 2000 V reg 3.0 Elite, although it is slightly different as it has the "sports pack" fitted (for now!)
The sports pack is MV6 suspension setup and MV6 leather seats.
It has 85,000 miles, full history (some comical bills there!) and 1 owner! :)
Full cambelt done in Feb (and to be redone in August as that is the only way I will trust it!)
Bodywork is superb, no rust (:o)), couple of marks that will clean up thats all.
Reversing sensors (original fitment).
Engine is spot on and has clearly been very regularly serviced.
Wheels are proper Elite 17" wheels with virtually new Goodyear Egle F1's all round (£500 worth!)
Tax to end Jan 07
MOT July 07.
Niggles:
Air con needs a recharge (I hope it is a recharge!)
Glove box needs a new catch.
I need to refit the original Bose unit (came with the car, seems the cd is skipping... I know a man who can help!) and get rid if the Sony thing that is in now!...
Need to get PROPER Elite front seats fitted and a selfdipping rear view mirror.
Aside of that, it's perfect.... especially at the price I paid (and no I'm not saying!) :D
Opinions of it so far?
Have to say, drives, handles and rides better than the pre-facelift. Also is noticably quieter at speed.
I am very impressed!
Anyone want a pair of MV6 seats in dark grey leather? ;)
-
I'm made up for you, bet your grinnin from ear to ear.
sounds great, you couldn't drop a dti in it and sell it me could you ;D
-
Still got the Senator?
-
I can confirm that this is a superb example of a lovely car. Stunning condition and absoluetly gorgeous colour. Mechanically about as good as you could get, even 4 brand new Goodyear Eagle F1 tyres! Sits on the road perfectly and sounds like heaven on wheels. I am very envious indeed. I know exactly what he paid for this and all I can say is he was very, very, very lucky indeed! The car is worth an awful lot more and will take very little to make it how Dave wants. The seats are super, but I do understand why he wants the original spec ones. This car is concourse condition and is a shining example of how good an Omega can be.

Looks VERY VERY nice indeed Laidback. I agree with you about putting the proper Elite Seats in.
Good luck with the car - not that you have much to do by the looks of it!
Refitting the original ICE and not a Pioneer unit??!! I am guessing that the BOSE set up it pretty (very) good anyway.
-
It has the full BOSE pack, we confirmed this at the viewing. The bose system in these is second to none, once heard there is no going back!!!!! ;)
ps..... I will reveal my latest acquisition at the weekend AFTER we have collected it. All I can say about that one is it is not as nice as this, but one hell of a bargain!!!!!!!!!
-
dave how much for the seats?
-
looks great, welcome to the facelift club were rust is rare ;D the colour seams a darker than mine, very nice though and a rare find too.
Why do you want the Elite seats Laidback? - The MV6 ones are far more supportive, and better than the Elite ones IMO
-
I have to say I don't think the MV6 seats are right in an elite.
Yes they are supportive, and in the MV6 I really like them.
In an elite...no. I want the proper electric seats which I can tie in with the self dipping mirror.
Besides, I can make good money from those MV6 seats! ;)

i bet!! - If i had a dark interior in mine, i would have them off you! ;D

so Dave the seats , the seats, the seats....are you selling back and fronts......
Are you putting them on ebay or do i have to wave cash via pm at you? ;)
LoL
Mark

Patience guys, need to find a replacement set first! ;)
-
My kitchen chairs? £10 each???? Just trying to help.......... :P
-
I've got a very nice set of directors chairs for £5 the pair ;D
-
Nice one laidback looks a smart looking motor. :)
what other changes do you have planned.
-
Very very nice indeed! Gorgeous colour too (well of course - it's the same as mine:)). Ya know i'm really slowly coming round to the facelift, I think. Still think only the mother of the designer could like the way that front bumper jutts out, but any other view (that doesn't show it) is just fine :). Get yourself an irmscher grill - helps a lot.
Will be interesting to see if you have the extra memory loom out to the mirrors. You'd expect it, being an elite, but as the sports pack was specced from the factory and it deletes the auto dimming mirror, they might not have bothered fitting the memory loom at all as it would be redundant (and they're stingy barstewards). Without it, it will be horrible to get the memory mirrors working with elite seats, although simply powering up an auto dimming interior mirror won't be too much of a problem.
Personally I'd keep the sports seats! They look great imho and are lovely to sit on. Memory is a nice toy to show off, but how often do you move your seats? Or of course you could realise my life's ambition and hybrid elite frames with sports squabs to create the ultimate omega seats. Wonder how much of a pig that job would be...

Now there's a challenge, electric memory sports seats! :)
<<awaits explanation from Mark as to why this is a non starter!>>> ;)

Now there's a challenge, electric memory sports seats! :)
If you get that working, leave the keys in it one night, I'll nick it off you... ;D
-
The thought's crossed my mind from time to tiime!!
I wouldn't have thought it'd be too much of a difficult job to use the best bits of both. AFAIK, they both use the same frames, it's just the bolsters that are different.
IIRC, one of the guys from ABS did a similar thing where he used the bolsters off GSI seats on a set of Senny ones 'cos the frame was broken. The same principle should apply I think.
-
You can definietly convert the sports seat to full memory ones. Motors would need to be added etc, but frame size is basically same, so no reason why not. All you need is a needle and thread that works on cow skin.
-
Hmmm, I see a challenge for me over the coming months.... ;)
-
Looks a nice car dave!!
i thought it was black, and you didnt even think to correct me when we spoke on tuesday LOL
-
Nice car Dave!
It's always great when you buy a car in great condition, solves so much problems :)
...so there weren't any spinny wheeltrims then? :'(
-
No spinning wheel trims (god I hate those things!) but there are a few niggles.
I will feel a whole lot better tomorrow when the cambelt and water pump are changed and the breathers are cleaned.
Yes, the cambelt kit was allegedly changed in Feb, and they did the rocker covers at the same time.
But, I want the job doing perfectly (no prizes for guessing who will do it then! ;)) and I have yet to come across a garage who cleans the breathers when they change the rocker covers....
Oh and we'll test the air con system so I know if it is just a regas needed.... or a new condensor! :-/
-
Another cambelt party LB? Any chance of bringing mine over? :)
-

Take some piccies and write up a good maintenence guide :)

Please take take loads of pictures, or even better video the process, I will pay good money for a tape/dvd of how to fit a belt (seriously!)
Damn, I wish my car wasn't f'ed, I would come and watch!
-
If it's OK with Mark, I would be happy to come over with the miniDV and tripod and burn a DVD - make a change from weddings. ;)

What another cambelt party? If only [smiley=wink.gif]

I agree about the sports seats. Given the choice of cloth MV6 sports seats and leather Elite armchairs, I'd take the sports seats every time. So the leather MV6 sports seats are the best of both worlds. I want to feel like I'm sitting in the seats, rather than sitting on them!
Likewise with the memory function, my BMW has this and I can honestly say I never use it as I'm the only person who drives the car. Set up the seats and mirrors once, and after that they're never changed. There is one memory feature that I find useful, the left side mirror dips down when you select reverse gear to ensure you don't kerb the wheels when reverse parking. That's one thing I'd like on the Omega, although I'm not sure you get that with the Omega memory seats/mirrors option.

No, not on Omega. tbh, the only beemer I've seen it on are the excuses for 4x4 they make....

A 735i i once had, did that. It did have cow and leccy/memory seats in it tho.

Best of luck with the cambelt change today [smiley=thumbsup.gif]

Cambelt, idlers, tensioner, aux belt and water pump changed.....and video'd.....
Plus the butchered knock sensor wiring fixed, idler pulley bearings re-greased, plenum removed and checked.........plus a few other odds and sods.....you can tell its been dealer serviced ::)
-
Many thanks to Mark for a superb job. :D
Engine is certainly smoother (cam timing was out, not by much, but noticable) and water pump had seen better days!
As for the knock sensor wiring and a few other bits... is there a dealer somewhere that has competent "technicians"?
Still a few little jobs to sort out but it is very nice car.
-
Well done guys.....sounds like an excuse for a few beers tonight :)
Does look a lovely car Dave.....but me thinks you will be spending a lot of time washing it.....thats the advantage of boring silver ;)
-
Does this mean I can have my parking space back? ;D There is an Omega shaped shadow permenantly cast into the tarmac now.
I must say I miss that car already. It was starting to look in place outside here. But then again, I have to make space for my next project tomorrow.

Both mine (840Ci) and my dad's (330Ci) have it. I think it's standard on any model with memory seats and mirrors. It can be disabled by setting the mirror adjustment switch to the passenger side though, so you may not have noticed it on some models. Really simple idea that is actually really useful, especially with 18" wheels! Pity the Omega doesn't have it, although my alloys are pretty scuffed anyway so I'm not too bothered.
