Title: 1970 - 1990 classics, if there was a remake.....
Post by: vauxfan2k on 29 November 2008, 20:02:08: If Ford/GMC/Volvo etc etc were to remake one of their older models from the year 1970 - 1990 what would you like reproduced? and would you pay the equivelant new price in todays money for it?

for me its a toss between a Mk2 cav sri saloon (in black)
or a Mk4 Cortina Ghia V6

I had a 'Viva' Magnum 1800, but that wasn't nearly as good.

Post by: holtender on 29 November 2008, 20:28:02: Not many from that period for me but give me a Rover P6, P5 or P4 or late 50's Vauxhall Velox ,I always liked the Cortina Mk2 1600E when I was a lad, but a bit naff now.

Post by: mantahatch on 29 November 2008, 20:30:23: Well no surprises from me, it would have to be the Opel Manta, now ig GM remade it with say the 3.0 V6 and just put a better rear suspension on it, I would be a happy chappy.

Would I pay for it, not until it was 3 years old, but then I will never buy a car newer than that.

Manta A - now that was a stunningly pretty car, but with a 2.0 XE engine

Opel GT, like a mini stingray, but only sweeter

Sanator with Lotus cartlon running gear....

Chevette HSR....the R bit is really important

that would keep me happy i suppose

as an equivilent to a smart car i would have a 970s Mini Cooper, old english white with a black roof

There's a couple of them rusting in peace (or pieces .. however you look at it ;D) in the yard of a body shop/recovery firm near me. :'(

I know there's better, but it wasn't that bad. It was leagues ahead of the cart springs that Ford were offering on the back of a Capri ::) :y :y

Who was it that built them over here for Volvo .... Jensen?? The build quality was horrendous, so they took them back to Sweden to build & called it a P1800S :y

Then again my mate had a new X pack 3.2 that had everything it could as new. When it started up it shook the houses, think he struggled to get double figures per gallon though but that was NICE :)

Jensen had something to do with them IIRC. On the subject of Jensen I wouldn't say no to a 541 or a C-V8. :-*

I also had a 1970 HB Viva (1st car) followed by a blue Avenger 1500 DL,3rd car was somewhat better . :)

remember these "remakes" will fall under the post 2001 tax rule (when it happens) so a 3.6 24 might not rob you of your licence but it will rob you of every penny you earn for fuel and road tax lmao :D
