Title: OOF Dog....
Post by: Taxi_Driver on 30 November 2008, 18:33:57
Holly is not well at the moment  :(
She started coughing and vomiting fri evening...
This continued all day Sat.....and this morning i took her to the vets.

She's got kennel cough (she hasnt been in any kennels tho)
Not the nasty type tho, apparently there are two types.
Its highly contagious and is an airborn virus, so vet reckons she must have come in contact with another dog that has it.

She got an injection to control her coughing, which seems to be working as she isnt coughing so much and hasnt been sick since  :y, and she has to take 3 tablets a day for the next week of antibiotics.....apparently kennel cough can cause other problems to occur....hence the antibiotics.

Vet told me to feed her light meals......so ive just cooked her egg fried rice.....which shes just scoffed (after i let it go cold) with some tabs hidden in it  ::)

I can take her for walks, but she has to be kept on a lead....avoid other dogs.....and vet advised short walks.....keep her inside as much as poss for the next 10 days.

He was that concerned how contagious she is......i wasnt allowed allowed back out thro the waiting room, where other dogs were waiting their turn.....i was bundled out the back door  :o after he emptied my wallet!!  :o

Our cat has come in today with a big cut on her side... Cleaned it with salt water and keeping an eye but think a trip to the vets may be in order this week. :( :(

Get well soon 'Holly'. :-*
Have you tried Children`s Benylin?....our Vet said we should give it to Debs doggies when they had kennel cough; it worked well and helped ease the coughing fits. :y

No not tried that Debs.....Holly is coughing less and isnt coughing now to the point were she was making herself sick......so the injection the vet gave her must be working  :y

Hmmm Childrens Benylin, i would think is a liquid???  :-/
How'd you get yer dogs to drink that????
I have to break the antibiotic tabs down into little bits and mix with the egg fried rice.....otherwise she sniffs em out and doesnt eat them.

As a long time animal owner (many kinds) I also use anthibiotics on them..Mostly children anthibiotics are more easy to dose..

As the private vets here take 15£ per injection and I have many animals its impossible to pay that money..I learned also how to make injection ;D..
