Read this too.....announcement being made at 0500 hrs tomrw.
All seems a bit sudden doesnt it?
Not a big fan of Button, but hope he gets somewhere else to show his 'talent'!!!
-
I reckon they should go back to being an engine supplier, tie up with williams (my favourite F1team) and relive the glorious Williams/Honda days. 8-)
-
We should replace the cars with Omegas with F1 engines. They couldnt handle any worse than the last 2 years cars ;)
-
If the OOF decide to buy this racing outfit I can raise........er.........£10 to contribute to the fund..........and drive the F1 cars for free!! 8-) 8-) :D ;)
-
I would imagine the £1 part of it is just the headline writers getting carried away, the grid slots alone are worth millions. :-/
-
Bernie Ecclestone must be having a few sleepless nights as his cash cow is looking distinctly sick.
Seriously, I think that F1 is about to face a mega-crisis. There simply isn't the sponsorship money floating around to fund the teams. Remember that financial sector companies have been big players in the sport over the last few seasons. Add to that, the R&D involved in the new season changes e.g. the new energy-reclaiming braking system (can't remember the name of it, right now) and the reversion to slick tyres. Also, the talk of one manufacturer supplying all the teams with same engines in subsequent seasons. Yeah, right. ::)
I foresee a partial (or even total) collapse of the sport, but later an emergence of a top racing series based on cheaper, less regulated semi-privateer outfits....and a sport minus Ecclestone and Mosley
Could be just what F1 needs in the long run. :y
-
totaly agree with nickbat, the whole f1 set up needs a good shake up. it has got rather silly of recent.
-
Good point, the best thing that could happen from a genuine enthusiasts point of view would be if the sport reverted to teams of enthusiasts like Frank Williams,Ken Tyrell etc; - with sport rather than big business being the primary concern. :y

I thought Button looked quite promising in his early days, but when they spend a few seasons in a no hope team its very hard to come back from.
-
button good driver in early days.too much cash too soon.make the point system for all finishers and pay on a scale, may then see racing not follow the leader. :y

That would be interesting.....think it would take me a few go's to get the balls to drive into corners as fast as is needed on an F1 car to get the down force needed to make them stick!
Also, I saw a woman sit in an arrows car some years ago....needless to say her 'front appendages' got in the way some what!
There a rather tight squeeze!
-
buy woolworths and honda and still have change out of 5p ;D ;D
-
would like to see button in a maclaren for a few races just to see if he's still got any of the talnet that he had when he first started.
also think it would be fun on the last 2 races of the season to swap drivers and cars around. put top drivers in the slower cars and vice versa. just to see if it is the cars or the drivers.

That will be a blow for my town - they are by far the biggest employer in the town, something like 600 people :'(
Still, at least that useless spoilt brat Button is out on his arse. Another Henman methinks...

Oh, I hadn't thought of that Mark! :o :o :o I would have a problem then, so that's me out of being a driver then!! ::) ::) ::) :D ;)

Ahh Ken, he was the last gentleman in F1 :(
-
I would mind if they all pulled out. It's become so clinical & far removed from anything most of us relate to properly you may as well watch cartoons. The other day on "Dave" i saw some 14 to 17 yr olds 2 of which were girls racing Ginettas. I know they all probably aspire to F numb but it was gripping to watch.
Real racing in my book. ::)

Agreed.
600 - is that just Honda or does that include local suppliers? If it's just Honda then you can probably multiply by 3.
Still, it's not over 'till the fat lady sings. You never know, a rich Russian might turn up. Here's hoping. :y

No Burger Kings in or around Brackley. Even the nearest ShiteDonalds is over 10 miles away. Chicken Shit Farm for Mr Button ;D

That'll be Honda F1. Remember, like many F1 companies, very little outsourced.
-
the money for the F1 team is beer money compared to the HRC budget £320 mil /year and they know they will win a lot more races than in F1 and as Honda are first and foremost the biggest bike manufacturer they put more investment into it as they will get a better return for it

OK, maybe multiply by 1 then. But well paid Honda employees drink and eat in local pubs. Go shopping locally. Buy cars and houses. And pay local taxes.
And Honda F1 will have a supply chain which will have a local component.
When the Fat Lady sings let's hope it's still a viable business.

Agreed, but its not quite as bad from that view as most industries going under.
I bet The Locomotive (the pub opposite their factory) is going to be hit hard.
