When JamesV6CDX was down this way he suggested the problem with my miggie was the thrust washer on it's way out. I have been searching the local workshops for someone to do the work with no joy (Would have booked James there and then but he said it's a 2 man job and I'm useless....even get the tea wrong sometimes...plus I don't really have any area off-road to do the work).
Anyone got any recommendations in the Littlehampton (West sussex) area for someone that could do the work?

depending on cost of the work isnt it just going to be easier and only maybe a little bit more expensive (maybe even less) to get another gearbox?

So this thrust washer has nothing to do with the clutch then? :-? :-?

if it's what im thinking off then it's the "dreaded thrust washer" from an autobox!

Ummm....when I said I was useless, I really really meant it. Back in the dim and distant past I could maintain my motorbikes with no problem but while I understand the concept of a thrust washer, I've never met one and wouldn't even know what colour it should be. The only maintainance I am capable of doing at present is 'side of the road' stuff and as with all things, the less you do it the less capable you are next time around.
Would be nice to know typical prices for both but in either case it would need 3rd party TLC to get it done if I ever wanted the miggie to run again.

Right, thanks again this morning!!! :y :y That is not good news then! :'( :'( :'(
It would certainly give me problems, as I can strip engines down and rebuild them, but never fancied doing the same with gearboxes!! ;D ;D ;)

all this i would be confident to do but getting the box off on the drive really is a 2 man job (weight of box & safety first) :-/

Thanks for that Hereford Elite, yes I could do that job no prob, but of course I hope I haven't got to yet!! ::) ::) ;) Mind you, it is a good excuse to get under the car again, one of my favourite places!! ;D ;)
Yes, I am a strange girl at times!! Just seems to be such an interesting and safe place to be!! ;D ;D ;)
