Yes, met fred on several occasions. great guy he was too. :y
-
Me too - he only lived up the road from where I used to live, and had a chat to him a few times at the Haigh Vintage Steam Rally - a totally top bloke, from a forgotten era :(
The amazing thing about him was the way his enthusiam made history interesting - even me kids love watching his programmes on DVD, not realising that they're learning at the same time.
I like to think of him in a similar mould to Murray Walker - he could make the most boring of GP's seem exciting, all because of his enthusiasm.
Exactly the same as Fred did with history, to the folk who didn't find it interesting :)

Would scar your wallet even more, if you had to do too many miles in it.... :(
-
Why, what kind of mpg did you used to get out of it?
An ex-colleague of mine used to have a 4.6HSE, and reckoned he could get 30mpg out of it on a run? Which used to seem quite ambitious to me TBH... :o

Don't have a lot of time these days (or the energy when I have the time!) ...... Most consuming "hobby" over the last few decades has been researching the family tree. Boring to some, but fascinationg when you get into it -- and a great way to appreciate history.
