When it comes to holiday destinations then Greece is the place to go i'm afraid as the variety of the landscape combined with the historical significance of the place give it the edge, BUT, be ware of crappy islands and visit the mainland instead, visit Pilio, last person that went there a year ago keeps thanking me today.

I went to Gozo a couple of years ago. Went the last week of July, first week of August and it was quite cheap then because it was the hottest time of the year and there was loads to do and see. Plenty of festivals, horse racing in the streets of the main town and the people very friendly. I would go again  :y

No joking but have you ever done Cornwall?

I would have to agree with Martin, Cornwall can be nice.  Really needs good weather, and often does get decent weather from June to August. Earlier or later can be variable though. But often, its as expensive as abroad, where you are usually going to get better weather....

With Cornwall the best time is early in the season - eg May June before it gets too busy, the sea may be a little cooler than in August but there are more flowers out - the gardens are good, lots of places to eat, lots of nice pubs and they all speak English.

Just avoid Newquay, St. Ives, and other big tourist beaches at high season.

Never manic in nort east or south west Cornwall.

TD has had a few suggestions for a walking holiday. Say what you like and I'll suggest somewhere.

BTW I live in Worcester, grew up in Gloucestershire, born in Malta, Cornish & Devon ancestry

Aye, Newquay sums up all that is horrible about English seaside towns. St Ives old town worth a visit - great place to see sunset into sea from up near gallery...

Landsend is poor and expensive, Lizard is pleasant, though nothing there (except Anns Pasty Shop - best pasties in the land).

ha ha ha  >:(

Got some more taken recently showing the vast difference come winter.

Those were taken when my parents were away, i gave her a shower when i got back. She liked it cause it was when we had the heat wave.

That dog had a shower a day for 2 weeks!!  :o - I don't like walking her around town, chavs + picking up poo is not for me. I'll let her fertilise the fields   ;D

Its mostly turned to mud now, a lot of the photos there with the tall "grass" is actually corn. Was hell for the dog in the summer all the grass seat getting in her fur. Better now, just mud and that washes off!

Anne knew my Dad, also the shop is a couple of doors away from where he grew up.

My god father runs the shop on the corner. My dad holds the through village speed record at 80mph after the shops.

Anyway Helford area is pretty http://www.martinimber.co.uk/hp.htm and http://www.martinimber.co.uk/pn.htm

Its a good walk, walk up to and around the water tower, also around the wood behind the tower. I also walked to Greatworth on a Sunday afternoon, found a nice pub thought i'd get a beer before I walk back. All shut!!!  >:(

What I do is decide the week I want to go away. Book the time of work. Then 2 days before go into travel agents / look online and see what I can get.

I have had some brilliant holidays for next to nothing!

Only once could I not find anywhere I fancied so went to N. Wales for a few mountains instead. This proved to be more expensive than a week abroad
