watching TG earlier, got me thinking about this Lada hatchback i nearly bought about 10 years ago, it was an L redg, so was only about 15 months old when i viewed it, was up for £495, we decided as it was echonomical we would buy it :'( with a grimace, when we went back for it we were about 5 mins too late, it was a very lucky escape as on the way home i spotted the most gorgeous 2.0 scorpio ghia granada i had ever seen for the same money, so we bought that and thought sod the economy side to it, ;D
-
ford fiesta, small cheap and nasty. cramped up, head rubbed on roof, and just total crappp
-
economy isnt the number 1 priority for many of the forum users here
i get 19mpg and thats good enough for me
as for worst car I actually owned a maestro which was really a mk2 alegro but i dont talk about that much ;)

Yugu Zastava - my first car....
Had to remove head rest in front seat to get the seat tilted forward to get the rear passengers in/ out...
Also the tape kept falling out the cassette player going up hills ::)
-
ooh ooh i DID buy a hyundi stellar once, when you turned the radio on the revs went up n the lights dimmed. ;D
-
once owned a brown montego diesel estate it even had blacked out windows. it was not clever or funny and can we keep that between ourselves.
-
Mk II Escort. Orion diesel. Renault 11 are the worst cars i've owned. Horrible cars >:( >:(
-
Dad wanted to buy me a Fiat 500 for my 1st car .trying to make sure I couldnt go fast. I refused point blank, said I wouldnt drive it.so ended up with an HB Viva. If I had got the little Fiat and kept it...kerching. ::)
-
A Rover 400 Estate, dealer brought it to me, but was pushing me to decide too quickly so said no, he was not happy ::), but I was cos I later bought our first Mig estate :y :y :y :y
-
a 1.6L Sierra - bought it off a mate for £100 when I was pissed.
The next day, when I got it home, I realised it was a hideous shed and a soon to be MOT failure, so it got gradually stripped down in the street and sold for parts.
I think my dad finally got sick of it and had the rolling shell collected by a scrapper when I was out one day. :D

What's wrong with Mk2 Eccies? They rock. With you on Renault11's & Orions though...dogsh*te.

galactic mileage N reg Jag XJ6 auto - absolute bucket, 90k on the clock (i reckon it was 290k the nick it was in) - in a moment of weakness i nearly bought it cos i've always had a wee thing for Jags and it was a beautiful BRG colour - luckily a nice elite turned up and saved me from myself :y

Doug, what was wrong with the Maestro ? I drove a Maestro van 700 with the 2 litre diesel for about 5 years for work. I found it a bit noisy but it would tow anything and never missed a beat, apart from normal servicing it only cost the firm one clutch at 97,000 miles and it actually wore out. So I was pretty impressed really.
As for my worse car, it had to be the Alfa 156 3.0 V6 Auto, it was a toss up between that and the Vovlo T4, we bought the T4 and only after learnt how unreliable the Alfa where.

I bought a Toyota Estima (Import) last year for £2300 within 6 months the head cracked and it was going to cost me £1600 to fix. Nice car to drive and the roomest car i have ever had with 8 seats. Ended up on eaby and sold for £300 still paying the loan off now :(

MkII Escort was the worst car i owned, it was covered in rust (even the pastic was rusty). It would loose power for no apparent reason, first gear didin't work & so i had to start off in 2nd. I forgot to mention that i had a Rover 800 diesel in red, which i hated big time, because of its colour, it was a good reliable car & it would take all the abuse
i through at it, thrashing the arse off it from cold. I just hated it >:(

bought an austin A40 farina, was held together with p38 & mars bar wrappers. that soon went to the scrappies.

In 1971 I had a 1960 (Mk1) version of one of those and yes, like yours, the chassis was held together to the body with newspapers, filler and prays, with me keeping the engine going. :o :o :o But I loved it to bits!! :-* :-* :-* :-* ;)
It cost just £15, but I got that back by selling the number plate, so it was the cheapest car I ever owned as well!! 8-) ;D ;D ;)
-
Mk2 Atra saloon/belmont. Only I did buy it. utterly rubbish car, only keep it a few weeks.
-
a Mk2 capri....
just generally n a bad way, off-loaded it shortly afterwards to a local scally who wrapped it
Aside from that haven't really bought bad cars
-
Oh, I forgot, an Omega. A blue one. With tractor engine.
Still, with love and care, not to mention kind help from a fair number of OOFer's, Project Tractor is a decent little runner now :y
-
Well can anyone really have done any worse than an MG metro (engine replaced with very poorly 1.0)...huge holes in floor filled with paper and blacked over and suspension on passanger side lost 90% fluid.
Yet it STILL passed its mot.... :o
First car owned.....upgraded 6 weeks later to a 2.0 Ghia auto sierra... :y
-
I was thinking of buying an omega.
-
i had a seat marbella horrible little car where the back seats was more like a deck chair a piece of fabric rapped round 2 bars
soon got rid for another heap of junk
a nissan sunny coupe 1.6
not had much look with cars
next was rover sd1 3.5 v8 ex police car
then went to a pug 406 then to a renault espace
and now the mig
-
I almost bought Citroen XM once. I still think estates look great.
-
bought a Renault 21,drove it back from the auctions which was enough for me to realise i hated it and sold it to a neighbour who had it for years,i owned it for less than an hour.

While i was on holiday, many moons ago, I Had a VW Vento that had to be recovered by the RAC- received a 800 as a hire car, which lasted about an hour before the RAC had to come out to it as it had a sticky throttle- Replaced with another 800 which lasted the rest of my holiday- RAC bloke said it was the first time he'd beeen called out by a member for 2 different cars on the same day!

i nearly bought an Omega from near Andy b in Radcliffe coming up to 12 months ago now. What i didn't know at the time was that the car had been on E-Bay for nearly 6 months by then. Its still there now I Had a lucky escape. Because i paid attention to other OOF members i had a rough idea what to look for .I Hope the next perspective buyer doesn't get bitten the way i nearly did

Bought a MKII 2.4S Jag body was sound but had been ‘coach painted’ needed a new Battery, not a big deal. :y
Started to run around in it, decided it did not feel as punchy as I expected, had to do the valves, bought a locking tool, did the valves and tried to start the car, bang went the exhaust, obviously the timing had slipped, I was fed up and scrapped it, got £25.00 for it. ::)

On the Down at the mo, bit of a worry as on the sick, 3 days time on holiday till 2nd Just worried what work will think :'( Health wise been pushing my luck nor for too long, the good side is when I am well I am very very good at my job and spend a lot of the time doing the legal/heavy stuff for other members of the team :y but those days are decreasing year after year and the day will come :-X

We've had a conversation along the same lines this afternoon when I saw how old Bugsy Malone is (it's on some time this week ). It's also made in 1976, and one of the young lads said .... ''that's 13 years before I was born ...." :o :o :o :y :y :y
-
iirc Mike your job can be stressful at times and that combined with your past problems must make them see that you are a genuine person that needs a bit longer to regain your health after a bout of illness .As i see it if just any one could do your job they would have dropped hints by now and told you the score. Worrying about it will slow down your recovery so chin up
