Title: trusted garages or specialists in west cornwall?
Post by: sounds2k on 28 December 2006, 19:50:39
A family member has my old miggy ... it had some work done on it by a local garage (DIS pack replacement) and they obviously didn't know miggy's well ... eg, the large part of the scuttle was ripped off (funnily enough the passenger side was intact so I guess they worked out how to remove it properly quickly!!), pipes not routed correctly (stretched over the rear multiram electrical connector instead of over, etc).

The rear shocks are definitely shot - and as it's an elite it will need the self-levelling ones ... it's also chewing the outer edges of the front tyres, the same garage reckon it needs both wishbones and centre diff seal replacing too.

Any recommendations on Vx specialists or garages / mobile mechanics that know what they're doing on miggy's in the west cornwall (Penzance) area and don't charge the earth? I'm guessing it may also need alignment too once the wishbones have been changed, again any recommended places mroe local other than WIM ??

thanks

£60 + VAT each for self levelling shocks on TC. I'll let you decide if you think their labour charge is worth it...

well if it was my own car then probably not, however this isn't any longer and it's over 300 miles from here!!

so I guess retail pricing is about £100-ish each then?

thanks Jaime!

.... hmmmm ... in which case, I guess they're best off getting the shocks done as they are really bad - when I pressed down on one side then let go, it went back up again then the whole of the back of the car rocked from side to side a few times - well, more like wobbled. Which would explain why when I took it out for a drive an hour or so beforehand the back started fishtailing slightly when I was giving it a bit round some bends - and not too hard either!

I basically said that needs sorting out ASAP as - especially with the weather they get down there, being able to see the sea from the kitchen window - it could make the difference between coming off the road and staying on it !!

Could still do with a recommended garage down that way for sorting out the wishbones and rear diff oil seal though  ;) :y

cheers  :y

yeah it is kinda like that down there, when they needed the lead flashing on the roof doing as it was leaking water down the chimney when it rained, a local tradesman did it, and said to pay when they were ready - you wouldn't get that round here!! :o

However, I think my point about the handling being dangerous at the moment and that the shocks need changing urgently has been taken onboard, gonna be done in a couple of weeks at Vx  ;)
