I know knothing about them, never seen or touched one.
Yet a relative (great uncle) has recently come by one, and apparently plays it with friends.
They swear it's really freaky -and have (apparently) accurately predicted really strange things - but I personally don't believe there is anything behind it.
What's your view?
-
Never seen one, never touched one and never will. They are really dangerous if used incorrectly.
-
dont do it james, my nan was obsessed with them, had proper meetings. my mum said shes never experienced such fear in her life, my dad said near enough the same thing. wouldnt go home till the day after my nan had her cronnies round, used to be things all over the place. me and m8s tried it, and things happened, i shite em and went home scared, was only 15. My ex girlfiend used one some years back & it really freaked her out. She said she'd never have owt to do with one again.
But when you have so many fingers on a glass, who knows who's moving it ;)

They are really dangerous if used incorrectly.
So I've heard so many people say.
Can you tell me what the danger is?

Brown pants.

dont do it james,
No intention of it
Not because Im scared, just don't see the point.
I can't see what the fear is. Everyone says they are so scary - can anyone offer a verifiable explanation as to why?

I don't believe in spirits though - hence still don't see any dangers.
I just think they're a pointless excercise, but not scary.
Maybe the effects are psychological?

Isn't that what a window cleaner rests his equipment on when he's up the ladder??? ::)

Oh come on guys.......it might scare a bunch of old women but thats all.....lots of us used to play with these things as kids.
Best not to give it too much importance.....and just see it as a bit of a laugh. :y :y :y :y

Speaking just for myself, I can't get my head around why so many people are so scared of a board game - I don't see how such a game could have any real life effects.
Maybe I'm too simplistic - I just don't believe in paranormal stuff.

Agreed james.......If people have a suggestible personality ......then maybe it is not for them.
Too many people watching too many horror flicks .....that's the problem.......not dangerous in my opinion. :y :y :y

Better off investigating the spirits down the local. Least you know what's going to happen
I heard there's a new spirit doing the rounds, called Dark Grouse. :o :o :o ;D ;D ;D

If you are not susceptible to spirit activity James then your point of view is valid. However if used incorrectly and without respect for the dead then you may allow spirits of those not at rest to cross to our plain. This may result in disruption whilst they try to find peace.
You may not believe but you should maintain a healthy respect for what we don't understand.
Yes, I have been involved with them in the past, have witnessed devastating predictions come true.
My advice, scary stuff leave well alone!
-
Ouiji boards are frightening only because we believe in them. Just like Voodoo in Haiti where the black magic works all the more, for your complete belief in it.
I wouldn't use one because I would be too frightened that something terrible would happen, making them seem all the more powerful
It depends how easy you scare, and I scare easily :o :o :o
Give it a miss :y

its a bit like what Derren Brown does, the power of suggestion and being able to manipulate people to do what you want them to do.

That's just what they wanted you to say!! :o

If you don't believe in all that sort of stuff give it a try, put your curiosity at rest.
I am daft as a brush as most people would know doubt agree, but like you say it was a board game sold in shops, which my Mother and Nanna played. I have never heard my Nanna utter one single swear word ever, until she told me what message she recieved on there.
I know for sure my mother would not have dared to move the glass to this particular word.
I myself am very open minded about spirits etc but this I wouldn't play.

House of Terror, this link tells you a story from 1993 involving one of my school friends who'd played with a Ouija board with friends from school, I keep an open mind with stuff like this!! it made the papers and the news in a big way, he got picked on quite a bit afterwards by other kids in our year, I only knew 2 of the kids involved but it only affected this one, and his home!!

Most people have a sort of sixth sense - like when someone is going to call.

moving away from the boards, my old girl friend had a mate who was "clairvoyant". i was sceptical and treated her as such, this was in 1989-90, so i asked her "out of mirth n merryment" to read my furure, she said i would meet a girl who's name began with a "C" thru a guy i worked with called Gary, she would have long dark hair and we would be friends first, we would have 2 children and we would be very happy together, now i thought, what tosh.., but a few years later, when i was working up a night club as doorman, i worked with a lad called gary, who introduced me to my wife, we were freinds for about 3 months before we got to gether, we have 3 kids, she has 2 by me, 1 by another guy, so we did have 2 kids, oh her name, Cathleen with a "C". and she has long dark hair, so when people ask me what i think, i say hell 8-) yeah there is something to the paranoprmal thing

Funny this should come up today. When I was about 18 we had a go with one. Learned I was was going to die of cancer aged 42. Guess what......I turned 43 yesterday! My old pal texted me yesterday to remind me. I had not forgotten though

Its wether your open to its interpretation though.
I bought a dress for a recent wedding, then had a really strong premonition that someone else would be there in the same dress so took it back!
Hey presto said dress was also there on someone else! One of my less worrying premonitions!
Think you need to be open minded about these things. I don't think they can be dismissed out of hand.

do you remember seeing the film ouija board, was on earlier on this yr i think, very good film watching them die 1 by 1 ;)
-
I've never used a Ouiji board but many years ago I was involved in a seance with a few close friends using a glass in the centre of the table surrounded by letters of the alphabet. We "contacted" a spirit that was supposedly a long dead relative of one of us and it told us thing that no one at the table could possibly have known. When we later checked these things out they were completely true!! :o However, we then started asking it things of a darker nature and the glass went ballistic and ended up flying off the edge of the table and shattering.
Haven't indulged in anything like it since.
I'm generally very sceptical about things like spirits and ghosts etc. but that was one scary experience.
-
I once owned a Ouiji board, but never ever used it as I well remember some of the horrific reports in the media (in the early 1970s if I remember correctly) and personally meeting friends who had used them with experiences that made these then young and "not scarred of anything types" quake at the very thought of using "the board" again! In the end even the churches were issuing warnings against people using them. :o :o
Bad stuff really did happen James when using these boards, as people are entering a plain of spirit existence that is beyond our comprehension and can open up a Pandora's box of good and evil spirit forms that can and did bring extreme grief (yes suicides took place!!) to the users of an Ouiji Board.
Do not touch it please on any account is my advice James, but God, and I mean God, help you or anyone you love, if you do!
I am not normally that serious, but on this one I really am!
-
i have used one on a few occasions, can i just say though i do not do it 'for a giggle'
i have a very healthy respect for the dead and the spirit world, one of the comments in that link was opening and closing the board, very important.
Many time we have 'spoken' with spirits and nearly always the info is absolutely bang n the money.
i never ask for future info, i am more interested in saying 'hello'
