Dunno about better or worse, I just prefer it.
Esp on lower spec systems, a lot more responsive than IE, esp IE7

AVG and Windows Firewall.
A NAT router with SPI on. Ping turned off.
All religiously up to date.
It's not bomb proof but it does reduce the amount of ways that someone will find a way in and then make something stick.
Bomb proof is not connected to the Internet, no removable media and a restriced rights user login. But that's no fun at all. :y

To me Firefox is much better laid out especially organised stuff like "bookmarks" :y
IE only used for m/soft updates ... ;)

The advantage of PCs is you can use whatever suits you best :y
The big issue I have with Firefox (and certain other software) is the way that their users are somehow conned into thinking they are safe, and thus rarely update their software.
FF users are no more safe than IE users (actually, based on past history, they are less safe), so you need to keep it updated.
The number of OOF users, according to our logs (which does record browser used, and version), who are still using V2 (which even FF say must not be used now), or even V1, or even V0, is quite large.
If you want to use FF, great, but FFS, keep it updated!!
