Enjoying the super pictures posted by OOF`ers for selection for the forthcoming calender; I was stuck by how well the Omega`s 'looks' and styling still hold up well in comparison to much-more modern production vehicles (especially the gorgeous Irmscher-Omega variants).
I find the general smallness and lack of stylistic 'presence' in most family sized modern estates to be really off putting: TBH, if I was in the market (and I had 'money'), I would almost certainly try to find a late model Irmy-estate as against buying a 'new' car.
For me the Miggy still has that "wow" something! :y

A crappy timing belt that snaps before the warranty runs out.
Cam cover gaskets made from tissue paper.
A heater bypass valve that just dumps your coolant on the motorway without warning.
A front door stay that was designed by a child.
A suspension geometry set up that goes through four tyres a day unless it's exactly right.
I did have a more unreliable car once...an alfa romeo.

Point 1 on my car was replaced at 40,000 and 80,000 and 102,000 (4 years) had no issues with this.
point 2 Cam cover gaskets replaced once in this cars lifetime about 4 years ago.
Point 3 Still on the original HBV and now done 104,000 as has crank sensor.
Point 4 Front door stay seems to be worse on newer cars and is affected by lack of greasing whilst being serviced. (again all mine are original and we have put some grease on them once a year)
Point 5 Again down to drivers probably kerbing the car and then not getting it fixed, it has been done once on my car about 4 years ago and I still get even tyre wear.
At the end of the day you have to go a long way to find a better car for the money.

The Omega may have its' niggles but everything produced since is just so utterly, utterly dull it's worth a little spannering to keep one on the road, IMHO. Catch me on a bad day and I might not be so enthusiastic though. ::)

Try a Morris Marina.
I knew it was time to get rid when I was driving along one day and:
1)The Head Gasket Blew.
2)The Front Lever Arm Shockers(Recently renewed) dumped all their
oil yet again and we started gently kangarooing along the motorway.
3)The rain thrown up by the front tyre was soaking my knees as it
flew through the rotted front bulkhead.
4)My drivers seat suddenly dropped 3" at the back as the rotted
floorpan gave way.
5)My wife asked why she could see the road flashing past through the
passenger door sill.
Oh, the joys of motoring on a budget when you are a callow youth and
a newly married pauper to boot! ;D ;D

i remember my dads montega spent more time off the rd than it did on it, did nothing but break down all the time ;)

had 3 caltons before 2.5cdx omega and now 2.2 cd omega ride good ,had a lot less troble with electrics from the carltons.(like the ladies a real love hate thing.) ;D :y

Plus.......A V6 engine design that means serviceable parts are hard to reach without damage to your hands, arms, and mental health that exceeds the "difficult" factor of even a Mini by some margin!! ;D ;D ;)
