Was due to be at work today but when offered with the choice of

1. Going in at 7am then washing trucks, sweeping the yard and cleaning pallets....

Guess which I chose.......??

Yep, working and my day is soured by having to conduct a disciplinary at 13:00  :'(

Its potentially a dismissal ( very probably) and made even harder by the date and also its on a policy breach I personally disagree with.

Oh Well...

I know, so do I, its a continual policy breach not fraud, sickness etc....

The way we work is that the disciplinary is set up between the persons departmental head and conducted by another departmental head ( me)

Had i the option i WOULD have held this back till after christmas - or done it earlier - i think theres a bit of malice involved to be honest  :(

Frankly if i can keep her in a job on a final written warning i will, but consistancy is the key in the deliberation  :-X

I had to work today, accomodation is a bit scarce, so had to stay in the holiday inn. :'( £55 per night, plus £3 per 30mins Internet, so no OFF last night  :'( :'( :'( Got up, car battery was flat,  :'( called out the AA, who started me and told me the battery's stuffed  :'( A trip to Halfords relieved me of £85 for a new battery  :'(. Got into work where I am qualifying a new build CCTV control system. Discovered a problem with the alarm monitoring system, that should have been caught well back in the design stage  :'( That's gona be fun to sort, how many units have been shipped like that  :'( :'( :'(.

I am due to fly back home this afternoon, thing is considering my luck should I chance it ?.

Does that ("consistency") mean she has been able to carry on what has become "acceptable practice" due to poor management exercised by her superiors? :-? :-? :-?

In which case that is risky grounds for dismissal and, if it ends up as a Tribunal case, the fact it has become "accepted practice" will go in her favour. :(

Exactly so Lizzie and on that basis I decided to go agaist the grain and retain her on a Final.

I feel she has been made a scapegoat ( its on internet use whilst talking to customers) only one person has been caught doing it ( and she has now been caught twice)

I walk around the area and see ebay, Bebo, BBC and so on on most computers...That inconsistancy was not something i wanted to put my name too.

She expected dismissal thought so maybe i`ve made at least one person happy even if i have pi$$ed of her department head and line manager. :)

That sounds to me a very sensible decision by you Markie! ;) ;)

Before any other managers start taking disciplinary action against those found to be doing what appears to be "accepted practice" then I would recommend that they should ensure all staff undergo 'retraining' on the proper use of the Company systems, with it being signed off by each employee, entered into their Personnel File, and it made very clear that disciplinary action will be taken if these "errors" are repeated.

If I was in your position I would certainly make that recommendation to your line manager / HR Department / Board of Directors as I sometimes had to in the past to avoid significant embarrassments for individual subordinate managers (who are also actively involved in this "misuse"??) senior managers and the Company as a whole, with resulting  financial consequences. ;)

You have one very relieved employee tonight however! ;D ;D 8-)

Went in today to load a container @ Bibby's in Scunny, only 30mins drive, backed on a loading bay & fell asleep! Slung the artic in a bus stop outside Tesco on way back to buy an Xmas pressie, (saved me a tenner fuel in the car), back along the M180 to Immingham, stopped again on the pavement outside the sorting office to pick up another pressie, had container lifted off on the dock, back to yard, drunk coffee or an hour or two (hourly paid). Working Mon,Tue, Wed, but all short day runs then off till 5th Jan. [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]
