Title: Tool Kit Items
Post by: Mr Skrunts on 27 December 2008, 01:56:42
Was thinking of putting a mini tool kit together for the Miggy.

I have a 2.5 GLS (V plate 99) and a T Plate 3.0 Elite

What items would you recomend tool wise.

I allready keep a selection of fuses and have a biscuit tin with a full set of relays as spares in the shed.  Plus bulbs, Wet wipes and a shammy.

Am not into the DIY repair side of wanting the tools, but just an emergency set up.

Also found this on the bay.  Dunno if it is a worthwhile item for anyone.

Unless I'm being silly, the oil filter has always been 24mm rather than 36. Not sure of a 36mm application on an Omega.

For an emergency kit, I would carry at min:

Jack/Spare wheel
Wheel brace and locking key if applicable
Adjustable spanner
good mole grips
screwdriver of each type
pack of cable ties and bungie straps

(personally I just carry the whole tool box over any distance, I know that's overkill)

For general repairs, the most common things are cambelt setup kit, 30mm offset spanner, torx sockets, and torque wrench capable of 8nm.

When I was in Scootland the PAS pump came loose on the VeccyB and threw the Aux belt off. Had a nightmare tightening that with emergency pliers, and getting the belt back on with an adjustable - all with a torch between my teeth. Much better to carry a toolbox, if space allows :y

Dunno about emergency use, but I have one of these in the car and two at home.

Free's up both hands, especially at night when checking undetr the bonnet!

I picked them up at my local BP Filling Stn for £3.99 each and NO p&p

I have one of those but I lost the charger for it, so I tried a 12 volt charger and smoke started coming out of the handle.  Maybe its only 6v.

i put duracell batteries in the charger last week, didnt even notice i did it. unless my son did and hes letting me think i did it, he can be quite crafty sometimes. ive seen him kick his golf ball out of the rough a few times, while i drop one through the bottom of my sleeve  ;D ;D ;D
