. . . and hopefully our last! Our Xmas at home was super nice, but a major PITA to get or do anything! Been kicked out of Sainsbury's twice in 48hrs due to them closing when we weren't expecting it. They also have been out of several common food items for days. :(
To be fair, a lot of it has to do with being spoiled from warmer climates and not being familiar with the UK holiday opening hours due to it being the first Xmas we were here. However, Xmas is a family time and other than family there's bu66er all to do here! Or if there is, it has to be planned long in advance.
This isn't all bad, I am supportive of family time. It just makes it really pointless for anyone else to be here on Xmas, unless you want to be part of the mad shopping rush on Boxing day. :P
Not as important, but the Christmas trees here are really sad! Even really nice homes have the saddest looking Xmas trees. I'm not talking about size, but the scraggly rotund shape. No wonder most people here have a fake one. ::)
Yes, we had a really nice Xmas. However, I don't think that we want to be house bound and short on supplies next year so saving for the flights already. It isn't really the classic Christmas spirit, but getting out of the house (especially in short trousers!) and having plenty to eat more than make up for it in my book. ;) :y

Of course -- there is that other small and oft ignored point to Christmas, in that we use this particular day to celebrate the birth of a certain Nazarene, Jesus Christ :)

Been there done that etc etc unless you are going to the southern parts of US ..............................Its same as here but colder (much more snow & foul weather) wear shorts if your mad, only one day is a day off work Xmas day, so no Boxing day / sport/shopping for the girls so what you mean is you wanna sunbathe at xmas, like our Southern Hemisphere friends ? :-?

How hard is it to realise that the big food stores close for 2 days and to get enough provisions in for 2 days ::) ::)
Tho some smaller 'corner' shops were open xmas day.....and stores like tesco express were open boxing day too. ;)
Yesterday I took a family of 5 to a tesco express.....nearest shop open to them....1 mile trip.....cost em £12 ;D ;D ....they werent english, but hey if they run outa food on boxing day....its not my prob ;D ;D
I didnt take em home but it would have cost em another £12 to get home unless they walked......no buses running either yesterday.

we were on 1.5 meter yesterday took 81 or so in 3 half hours, busses were every hour on major routes, brighton wern't that busy!
i think we gonna be in trouble next year :-?

So we were too......but its a bit more complicated....as it was a friday...1.5x anyway for 5 or more passengers....then another 1.5x for boxing day.....then another £1.50 after 6pm.
So after 6pm last night it was £7.50 min fare (for a mile) for 4 passengers or less and £12.75 for 5/6/7/8 ;D ;D
I wont say what i took.......but i was out for 10 hours yesterday :y ;) ;D

Thats christmas in the UK and I wouldnt have it any other way! Instead of moaning about your host country (you choose to be here) why dont you piss off home! >:(

Peace and Goodwill to all men (and women). Come on folks, this is a bit strong!!!! We have cultural differences, live with it!
And, let's face it, which country you are in or from is irrelevant. Christmas ISN'T what it used to be ... these days it's all shopping bargains and Hallmark cards -- the true spirit and message is fast disappearing in this multi-cultural, politically over correct world ----- but let's not bring all that crap into our forum family ....please!

its funny how the minorities shout the loudest ! and the pc rubbish that we now have been told to adopt seems to favour them, the mans already saving for flights im afraid i agree with ljay !
no we dont have cultural diffrences , any one that comes here has there own culture, and if they dont like OUR culture then they are free to leave not slag us off :y

OP wasn't "slagging off" our country -- he was critisising the way we celebrate Christmas -- which I happen to agree with him STINKS!!!
I will not waste any further energy on debating the pros and cons of this and that with you, Ljay. Your ill thought out and totally unconstructive responses do not warrant the expenditure.
