I will buy one of these calanders as they are to do with the forum, but like Ljay mentioned in the gallery thread, I too thought the pictures would be up for a debate sort of thing.
There are alot of lovely Omega's on this forum I personally have seen a number of them that dont seem to have made it.
Why is this?
I understand you maybe wanting to get it done before Jan but I personally think it would be better to get it right with everyones vote than to run ahead willy nilly..

Here Here!
Act in Haste, Repent at leisure!
-
To be honest before the Tax Disc Holders were done, quite a few samples were posted on the Forum to get what the majority decided..
Just assumed something similar would happen with the calander.
-
Methinks that if the 12 photo's for the calendar, and one for the cover, were subject to democratic decisions by the whole forum membership... it might actually get "published" some 30 years after the last Miggy is scrapped.
The idea was floated, and a lot of work done, now we have a "proof" calendar a bit like one you see in the shops .. you know, cover picture with small pictures of all the pictures on the back.. if you don't like the pictures you see you don't buy.
Especially for 2009 it needs to be actioned PDQ IMHO, it might be possible to have "democratic" one for 2010 if the work start in April ???
:-X :-X :-X :-X

Maybe it was a little late to start this off, but we have to start somewhere. A good first effort i think. ok. maybe more thought for the next year, but hey, give the folks a chance. :y

Lots of people showed interest to buy them, seems to me that if people dont get any input as to whats in it then someone will be left with a job lot of calenders!
Notice yours made the grade (incidently none of ours were submitted, so no bias shown)

As far as I can see the Calander post in the gallery date is 22nd December, it is only the 29th today.....
Alot of people myself included ain't been on a great deal lately as it is Christmas.
Personally I think it is unfair....
-
I will be buying one anyway (where else sells Omega calenders?!?!?) but in my opinion some of the pics and cars are a little bit non descript.
I would have expected for all the gorgeous cars we have and all of the great pics I have seen of some of them on this site that the end result would have been a bit more exciting to look at.
Just my 2p.

I think your 2pence worth is a just point.
Jim has probably the nicest Omega I have seen... Dundee also has a nice one......

This just shows the problem of any democratic idea .... :( Both highly valid comments .. of diametrically opposed views ....

In the other thread ... (page 5)
I have no problems with any of the pics but notice that they are all 'posh migs' should there not be a range, which would include some of the basic models :-X

To be fair to those organising/supporting/selecting, its been done a bit on the 'hurry up' as it was very much a late entrant into the 'what calender will we get Aunt Nelly this year' scenario. To me, if we went down the vote/poll route we would be lucky if it was available for 2010...
**idea** - start a thread now with potential pics for 2010, taken with good quality, high resolution/proper camera images, instead of happy snaps from your mobby of your P&J that would stand intense scrutiny in a photographic publishing place, so as to prevent moans and groans about poor quality rubbish pics.....
:P
;D
-
I wasnt moaning, just stating a fact that there are some BEAUTIFUL Omegas on this site and some people have took great pictures of them.....
-
still require buyers though!

The Tax Disc Holders didn't take that long... and they are right, they look good, they were also put on the forum so Forum members could vote which was to their taste. The winner won.
That seems fair to me...
What is the point of doing a "Hurry Up Calander?"
Surely as a group people would want it to look good..

All true...
We are now in January, near as dammit, and even without a poll, its taken almost 2 weeks to get this far? And still debating? Add in a poll with the 'yup, thats a good pic' and the associated chasing of a high resolution pic and subsequent production/distribution times and we are another few weeks along the line and into Febuary or more...
Not complaining about those complaining, just trying to see through the logistics of getting a calender out whilst its still reasonably current... :y

I agree with Loo Knee...
-
I don't think that it matters that it would not be done for Jan.
If it was done properly and fairly with a vote, with like what has already been said with nice pictures then great. If they all sell then next year they need to be started earlier.
If the Calander is done "Hurry Up" will they all sell? I remember getting £3 off some people was bad enough.

Well as the concensus was that a 2009 calendar was wanted, I managed to set up an email address and go through several changes over 8 pages of 'debate' in a little over a week. So lets scrap the 2009 calendar if you all want to decide between 2 or 3 cars and let s start planning the 2015 calendar!
I have no connection to the club other than owning a car. This was completely voluntary on my part and now I've gone through all the effort 'it's not good enough'! You can all feel free to volunteer you know!
-
Have the twelve pictures already been chosen.......can I see them?.
Or has a final choice not been made yet. :y :y
We will buy one regardless of the quality or content of the pictures. :y :y

No point spitting your dummy out.... I think the idea of having a calender is brilliant, just that in my opinion which I am entitled too is that we are a Forum, a group of people with the same intrest, which is only fair that it should be voted on.
I also know what it is like doing Volunteering
-
I agree with both sides of this debate, though things have to be rushed this year if we want them in Jan.
So, I guess the Q comes down to go with what we have, or wait, and spend more time doing 2010 calendar?

I understand both sides myself. Personally don't think it matters if the calenders aren't done for Jan, I would rather the Calender to be right, look brilliant, and be an on going thing for all the hard work that I know will be put in.
-
if theres enough definate interest then go with what we got. if not then wait untill next year put it to the vote and give everybody their say.

I also understand what you are saying here. But the Tax Disc Holders were £3 odd and you wouldn't believe how many people said they would have one then didn't, couldn't afford one etc etc.....
-
At the end of the day do what you like... obviously everyone else is happy with it :-/
-
Seems like what should be a good idea has caused a lot of bad feelings....so maybe not such a good idea after all.
Its a calendar with a few pics of Omega"s on...is it really worthy of all the fuss. ::)
-
Firstly, I would like to congratulate Welung666 for his efforts, you deserve a pat on the back for that at least! I do know how hard it is to arrange things like this! :y
Unfortunately however, I have to agree with Loo-knee. I do love the idea of an Omega Calendar, and I would undoubtedly buy one (if it’s of a satisfactory quality). Personally, I would rather have a calendar that’s late, but of a professional quality over a calendar which has been rushed.
Just over a year ago (when I had the Vectra), a Calendar was arranged in advance, and group shots were taken. The calendar was the small type which sits in a CD case on your desk. (I apologize if a design of this calendar has been discussed, but I don’t know what it will be like, and have assumed it will be a ‘hang on the wall job’?) If I remember correctly, the calendar was late at been published and thus arrived late. However in my opinion, that wasn't a big issue, as the calendar is something which I wanted to keep which I could look back at in years to come!
Honestly, I think we should put the calendar on hold until there are photos of a professional quality, which we have chosen between us all.
Photos should be taken with an adequate digital camera, which is in focus with the correct colour balance etc. Also some thought should be taken into account when taking the photos; it’s not just the Omega that your taking a photo of, it’s the surrounding area too. What about the countryside, beach, mountains etc etc. Surely that’s better than someone’s drive / street / garage? (I put a lot of this down to the mad rush again – give people time to find / take decent photos).
Volunteering is something which I don’t mind doing and will continue to do so when possible. I have done in the past on both this club (the Ruforth Meet back in September for example) and on the Vectra forum when I had the Vectra. It is nice to put something back into the club, however sometimes things just don’t go quite to plan, which I feel has happened with this calendar – however don’t take this as a bad thing, it just means we need to iron out the problems between us all, and we will get there with fantastic results whether it be this year or next! :)
-

Its a calendar with a few pics of Omega"s on...is it really worthy of all the fuss. ::)
Again, it depends on what you want from it...
Its almost like asking people what a car is, for some people its just something which gets them from A to B! For the majority of us on here, its much much more than that!!! :y
-
There was no dummy spitting involved! I'm perfectly happy organising it all, even down to the printing. I was simply pointing out (not simply enough obviously) that a few people were asking for a 2009 version hence the quick whipround for photos. I'd rather people stated their opinion in the first place than sit around and mumble to themselves. So now there is NOT going to be a calendar for 2009, I've wasted enough of my time off croppng/editing/lightening/darkening photographs and I'm going to enjoy my last few days off before I return to work! In January I'll start again for next year. Any 'David Bailey' types fancy being official photographer?
Hope fully that will appease everybody :o

Fully understand what your saying and agree...just saying its not worth people falling out over...or feeling aggrevied that's all.
Its a good idea in principle.....
Maybe 36 cars could have been chosen and 12 picked at random luck of the draw style...then a more professional calendar done for next year.
But like i said just seems silly people falling out over it. ;)
Oh and my view on Omega"s are its a big cumfy car that hopefully gets me from A to C without breaking down at B. :y
-
I think it should include the odd astra. Perhaps May or June. Just a thought. :D

I'm not that bothered as I have my calender for 2009 and it was free from the MX5 owners club :D

a lot of members have very nice cars, would be better if you could put them on backgrounds more suitable, outside someones house looks a bit cat to me. also number plates blanked out deosnt look nice, will you be putting in the month to replace the reg. im sure phtoshop could make the calender very appealing to all. thats my opinion anyway.

Heres an idea, don't rush it, take a bit more time and make it an 18 or 15 or 13 month calander??
It doesn't have to be a 12 month calander
I'm sure by this time in the year most people have a calander so would not actually buy a rushed out 'Top Gear/ Alfa esque' calander, i know i wouldn't
-
Exactly.
I honestly thought most of the pics were average at best and with a bit more time some right proper pics could be taken/sent in and the calender made all the better for it.
-
If I were TB, I would say that you were a shower of moaning bastards and kill the idea stone dead :)

to be fair lee has done an excellant job in the time he had ! it was a quick job for this year with a view to doing another next year ! and i agree with lee if you think you can do a better job in the time it was done then crack on >:( >:(
-
I dont think thats the point though is it?
The point is that a decent job is done of it and looking at the pics proposed that isnt going to be the case.
If thats as good as it gets for 2009 then thats fine, nowhere else sells Omega calenders anyway......!!
If they are made I will buy one regardless, but the nicer they are the better surely.........???
-
Just put a post so anyone can submit good photos by a certain date..
Post them up and all vote, easy..
Its done on the photo forum i use every week...
Who wants a calender with bad photographs...Its a great idea but really does need the best images to make it sell and be wanted..
I will shut up now and expect a reply from STMO telling me to do so... :-X ;D :y
-
Well said.....
We have opinions just like STMO and everybody else does.
No harm in that.

What is all this talk about the Mazda MX5 being a hairdressers car.
I have said before on this forum ,that I really love the little MX5 ,and would love to own one.
So Elite Pete ,take no notice of these anti MX5 comments and enjoy one of the best small sports cars ever built.
I know that they are driven almost exclusively by women...and Mr Dusty said he would not be seen dead in one,but you men are far too concerned with image to enjoy this fabulous car.
Good for you Pete. :-* :-* :-* :-* :-*

I don't worry about what other people say Dusty, the MX5 is a good drivers car, 130 bhp, very light, RWD and the suspension is even more adjustable than the Omega ;)

I am with you on this one Dusty :y :y; lovely car with a certain amount of zip, which I would not say no to if I had the chance of one.
One of my female uni friends has one, and I just love it when she sometimes picks me up in the MX5 to go to Canterbury instead of using my miggy. But I must admit is not as comfortable as the miggy! Great fun car though!! :-* :-*

Let's lay the MX5 issue to rest once & for all shall we? All you big butch blokes who call them hairdressers cars probably could'nt drive one properly anyway. I've had one & other than in a straight line the MX5 would leave the MV6 for dust. Yeah yeah i know you all hate that but it's true. I'm with you on this one Pete break 'em, what do they know?
Also if any of you can crawl out from behind your pc's, knock on my door & call me a faggot hairdresser to my face you'll be more than welcome.........although could you leave it till post Lattee on friday as the salon's booked up & my nails need doing not to mention my spray tan.

Looks like thats up in the air at the moment.
I think those criticising (probably the wrong word, but stella has flowed) it have valid points that should be considered

I feel that Welung666 has taken it asthough I am actually picking at him personally.... As for the Dummy spitting it did sound as though you had. If not then I was wrong.
What you have done is good especially in the time you have done it. I am sure though you would feel better yourself if everyone was so pleased with the Finished Calender, I know I was when I did the Tax Disc Holders, alot of work yes, feeling messed around etc but in the end I was pleased.
-

Sorry, all cancelled coz i could'nt decent piccies of the Beastie in on time. Hardly worth going ahead really!!!
Joking, we'll have to wait & see. [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]

I think Welung666 has done a great job in the short time, and with very little Admin support due to time constraints, so should be applauded for that :y
The people who have arranged stuff for OOF know how much work, time, and effort goes in to it, and I know Welung666 has spent a lot of time to get as far as he has.
I guess, as said earlier, do we abandon 2009, and aim for a well planned 2010 one, or go ahead with a 2009 which may be less than perfect?
-
I honestly think that it would be great to have a 2009 Calender. It doesn't matter to me if it wasn't ready until March.
-
Remember we could be different, a calander does not have to run Jan to Dec, we could have a Lakes meet to Lakes meet, would give time to plan and by then most meeting dates would be know so could be put on the calander. :y
I think the idea is great, just perhaps a little pushed for time / consultation with members. :)
-

OK, so is a 10month calendar worth considering? Trouble is, everyone will already have a 2009 calendar
-
IMHO .. go ahead with 2009 as is... and start work on 2010 early.
I'll certainly buy one as shown in the photo thread
And thanks to welung666 for much effort :y :y :y :y :y

I think you should change Septembers, it looks like hearing aid beige ;D

Being biased (admittedly) I'd like to wait for a 2010 issue which given more time would be a cracker but whilst i don't know (or need to know) what's recently gone on or how much work welung's put in already i'll still buy one if you decide to go ahead. :y

I don't think it is the fact of you may have a calender already though.
That really doesn't matter to me anyway.
The idea of not a Jan to Dec calander sounds good... Even a July-July Calender to Celebrate the start of the 3rd year of the forum seems a nice idea. Even highlighted dates or Lakes Meet/Newent Meet on the correct days would be a nice touch.

Springtime is fine by me then we can go to town on 2010 at our leisure. 8-)

Bit like the cars.... Outsiders think we are daft still looking after such beasties, but they are the unknowing onesand we know better....... ;)

Poll added
-
Ok what if the Poll was something like
1. A 2009 Calender from July to July for the Birthday of the Forum
2. A 2009 Calender from June to June for the Lakes Meet to Lakes Meet
or something like it?

I think that's a good idea, we can use the lakes meet to get a nice group shot of all the cars for the cover.

That idea has given me another idea... how about we arrange an image for each month, with the dates for that month in the image? we can then set that as our desktop background...
Bit like this:
Taken from thisisyork.co.uk (Had to laugh when its almost the same as the one I took with the mig it it! ::))

i don't quite understand this one sorry.. ::)
Do you mean you prefer not to have a traditional sort of calender that you would hang up?
-
I think the big question at the moment is "How many would buy a 2009 Calendar" As I would imagine the cost has to be up front.
-
I think that a good idea has just become very complicated....... :(
-
I think a Poll should be put up asking who wants a 2009 Calender "Yes" or "No"
Once you get an idea of how many will be intrested, then needs to come ok what type?
Jan-Jan
June-June (to be able to show the Lakes to Lakes Meets)
July-July (The Forums Birthday Celebration)
Do we highlight or have a particular dates which says "The Lakes Meet" & "Newent Meet"
Then a place for all pictures submitted to be put by a particular date. Then screened like Skruntie did with the Christmas Girls to get the winner.
Whats everyone else think?
-
I dont know what to think now ::)

I think that is a must, a good reason for proper planning ahead......... :) some things can not be rushed if you want a quality product. imho

1st poll has now started.
If there are 50 yeses then you have a starting point.

I agree again with you ;D
But being fair I think it may have been done at the wrong time, alot of people may not have been on the forum with Christmas and the more people that put their input in the better the Calender will be :y
-
I polls are done along the lines that Loo-knee and others have talked of then the faster a poll is filled in then the faster the result is known.

Interesting debate, where is the calender can it be viewed anywhere
-
As mentioned a simple job just got really really complicated.
Why not open a thread to invite STUNNING pics of Omegas in all sorts of locations.....leave it open for a week then close it and invite votes for the best 12.....cant be that difficult to do....??

9 pages about a calendar? terribly sorry old boy, I am a little tired

9 pages about a calendar? terribly sorry old boy, I am a little tired
Indeed! :y :y
To come in late, and controversially (again!), on this over long thread from the woman's point of view I don't think a calender put together by predominately male membership featuring just cars, Omega or not, is that attractive to us. :(
Cars in the foreground as a small feature of beautiful scenery all round, with say Debs type dogs in some, would be lovely, but I cannot think of anything more boring than a "garage" type calender! :o :o
Just my opinion of course and I know I am going to be out voted by most men, but I have to make the point. ::) ::) ::)
Whatever happens to do the right kind of quality job you must be looking towards a 2010 calender. ;)

Well seeing as an Omega is a Man"s car driven by men talked about by men on a man"s forum then its only right that the calendar should have lots of cars and maybe some totty posing.
Yes im a chauvinist pig and proud of it...Oink Oink... ;D :y
(Unless the wifes about then im not allowed too be.)

Of course I knew that Stuart, but joking aside your point is very valid as I know many men would love to have cars and women in any calender, especially that associated with a car forum. ;) ;)
You are also right that this whole thing has become over complicated, and plainly too late for the New Year, and for 2009 everyone should settle for a calender from the local shop! 8-) 8-)
Mind you I have never bought one in my life, as I always received plenty of 'trade' calenders and also some from friends! :D :D ;)

Totally agree...........Omegas are great cars ..............but perhaps we could add a "garage element"..(as Lizzie calls it).....in order to enhance the elegant shape of the Omega.
The female form is beautiful ......and I think that a nice sexy lady should be added to each month of the calendar.
After all .......this is a predominately male forum ......so let's not get too PC about this. :y :y :y :y

I must agree with you Optimist, as I indicated before although not obviously of a woman's taste (well for most women! ;D ;D) I can appreciate that men love cars and the female form together, and why not! 8-) 8-) 8-)
So perhaps taking the 'boring' element out of just cars being shown, for the majority male membership produce a classy, quality, cars & women calender that you can hang up in your offices (if permitted!) garages or studies. ;) ;)
As I said before though, do not expect many women to buy it. ::) ::) ;)

I believe that you are correct in what you say about women buying the calendar Lizzie........not many ....if any at all ,would be interested in such a calendar.
If us male forum members are lucky enough to get a Omega calendar with the attractive female form added............then all the better.
If so........I would like the calendar to be produced ........in a classy....elegant......sophisticated....and above all professional manner................no tacky sleaze . :y :y :y

I'll buy one so long as all the profits go to the forum :)

9 pages about a calendar? terribly sorry old boy, I am a little tired
Yep! Well my hands are washed of it now so hey ho!

Have a look in the gallery Mike, I think there are2 threads on the go.

Indeed!

Thats the answer then...female members pose for the calander....ok so they would probably have too do 4 months each... ;D
How about it Lizzie fancy slearing ya self in grease and doing some posing. :y
Have a think about doing the calender too... ;D

lol Stuart!!;D ;D ;D I'm flattered!! :-* :-* :-* :-* ;)
If I was 30 years younger I would have been honoured to, but I don't think I would even do a WI "nude" calender justice!! ;D ;D ;D ;D
You need young, slender and sexy things who haven't had kids who would compliment the cars and excite, not turn off you blokes and sell the things to be treasured!! ;D ;D ;)
Why don't you all club together and commission a 'model' / photographic agency to come up with something for 2010? :-? ;)

So, Lizzie, are you up for it? All in the name of the forum of course. :-X
-
I think all the calendar threads and polls seem to be saying the same thing.
50 people need to order, and 20 people vote, and that dont cost a penny. :-X
-
When this 1st popped up in December I voted "Yes" to a calendar and offered some pictures.
Welung,
I feel for you. You were just trying to put something together as a bit of fun and it has been hijacked and turned into a major league professional issue, which has been bandwagoned by some people who's cars were not included and feel that they should have been.
Personally I'm very dissapointed in some of the attitudes and lack of respect I have seen shown on this thread (simply starting the thread completely undermined and devalued Welung's efforts). I had always felt that this OOF was very unusual, almost unique, that it didn't suffer from this type of thing.
Now this debate has gone on I'm not interested. I'll just make my own quick 2009 calendar. I've seen the pictures I like and I have access to a professional A3 printer for nothing.
I do understand the point about a more professional look, but that takes considerable time, and needs to be managed very carefully with some financial investment too. This is a an amateur (free) forum which is here for fun and practical support.
Yes there are members on here who are "omega enthusiasts", but that it the minority. Having said that they are the same minority that would be more likely to have pictures of Omegas on their walls.
The question in people minds should really be this: Is this intended as a cheap and fun calendar aimed at the majority who may not even be that interested in a calendar anyway, or is it a professional looking job and aimed at the minority of enthusiasts who are more likely to be interested or "in the market" for an Omega calendar?
I personally think that the market is greater for the latter rather than the former, but to appeal to that discerning customer you will have to invest and do a very good job.
As for me, I'm now in neither camp and I'll spend 2009 taking very good shots in each month and it will give me a good project and an excuse to go off travellling with the car to find good spots. That'll do for my 2010 calendar.
Have a good 2009 all. :y
Oh, and I'll be keeping the Omega, but also looking for a nice MKII MX5 in the Spring too :P
-
Well, I would have bought one like I said, and where is the harm in trying to make it as good a calendar as possible???
If it was left too late for 2009 then it was left too late for 2009.....it could have been worked around, but the main protagonist has now withdrawn totally and washed his hands of it so to be honest its all a bit of a non story now.
I did post a few of my pics for consideration, why not.....in my own opinion some of the pics being used were average, including the one of a silver omega parked down a country lane......and several of the cars pictured were dirty too......
For a tenner I would have hoped for something a bit more special.
There must be 100s of brilliant photos on this site or in our cameras of our Omegas and where is the harm in saying that......??
Anyway, thats me out so happy new year to one and all......!!!
:)
-
.....if you don't like the pictures you see you don't buy.....
And this my mate would have been the problem I think !!!
-
I haven't seen the pics for the calendar but if I were to buy one they would have to be of the cars in nice surroundings.
I'm sorry it looks like the calendar is not going to be made, it just shows that it is hard to please everyone.
:-* :-* :-*
-
Agreed.
