It has been very wet in London today, and the resultant water logged roads have reminded me of something which I though I would share. It is just a piece of advice really and I am sure that most, if not all, on here will already know this but just in case..................
If you come across a piece of water logged road, don't drive through at excessive speed. Not only do you risk aquaplaning but the cold water will hit the hot catylatic converter which will cause thermal shock and could possible cause the internal honeycomb to fail in the future. Of course, on the V6, there are two converters to worry about.
For these reasons, I always slow down when approaching a waterlogged piece of road.

Good point, didn't think about the cats. I am like a kid sometimes drive though on purpose to make a big splash!! :D
That cross roads near the Esso / Tesco Garage and Hayes Rail station, is that corner really flooded again?

Yep, that was flooded as was a large section of the Uxbridge Road.
With all this rain, there is still[/i] a hose pipe ban in the this area!!

Bloody stupid aint it! - After washing my car i used more water washing the soap off with full buckets of water than using a hose! >:(

I know what you mean. I use a watering can and reckon that this uses the same amount of water as the hose and is a whole lot more inconvenient.
Makes washing vehicles a real pain.

I might use a hose next time, put it down the centre drive. I think Hillingdon police have more important things to worry about, although i think i am with three valleys water so not to sure even if they have a ban. Never got a letter about it :-?

My biggest concern is water getting into the inlet, it doesn't compress too well promptly causing rods to bend and other nasty stuff basically destroying your engine. Happened to one guy I knew when he drove his Audi S2 through a rather large puddle (certainly deeper than he expected), wrote the car off as the entire engine was knackered and would have cost in the region of £3-4k to replace!
Depends where the air intake is of course, don't think the Omega should have much risk of this unless the puddle is really deep.

Use the hose to fill up the bucket.....thats allowed :y ::)

f*ck the hose pipe ban whose gonna know??? haha god sometimes the things i dont worry about make me feel really young on this site ( im 20 ) and im with Tunnies first post, how good is it splashin through puddles haha anno anno it doesnt do the car any good but its fun!

puddles are sssooooo tempting especially the bus lane in carlisle when you having a bad day .... and driving a bus ( obviously) everytime someone spits it floods and you have to really crawl down the drop form the speed hump to avoid soaking everyone...... when theres no one about though its great you can REALLY hammer the water at the shop fronts ;D (yes i am 33 going on 12!!)
one day an inspector stood monitoring the puddle lol ... do you know how tempting that was it was nearly worth the sack :-/
