Title: DAS Course Starts Tommorow
Post by: tunnie on 02 January 2009, 10:27:10
Just took my bike theory this morning, and passed  ;D

Bought all the gear as i posted up before, and the course starts tommorow. Could be interesting, driving to the test centre the roads where awful, washing the windscreen every 2 mins, i was thinking i don't have windscreen wipers on a bike!  ::)

That'll be OK then, as you won't have a windscreen on your bike!  ;)  ;)  ;)

I know that it's possible to get a screen of sorts on a bike

I was thinking more about the visor! Had enough trouble seeing out though a huge windscreen this morning

When on the move, turning your head to the side allows the wind to blow the raindrops off.

If the visor gets really mucky you can get a wiper blade type thing that slips onto your left thumb on top of the glove so you can manually wipe the crud off.  I;ll have a websearch and see if I can get pics...

you do get them in the UK as well but you get then idea.

It's perhaps an airflow thing, but I find that my visor doesn't get any thing the amount of crap you get on a car's screen. You always have the option of tipping it up enough to out from under it. It's not as bad/cold as it sounds ...... honest!  ;)
Well done on the theory too!  :y

I find that Rain X helps too.

Says he .... whose bike has sat in the garage untaxed or MOT'd since last May.  :(

You'll find that your visor doesn't seem to get as grimey as windscreen.  Raindrops can be an issue, but as H21 says, turn you head each way slightly at anything above 30mph, and the raindrops fly off.

if your visor keeps misting try washing with washing-up liquid.(worked fine for me over the last 30+ yrs)good luck with the bike test. :y

Well done Tunnie and I hope the practical side goes as well! :D ;)

Anyone who drives one of those machines has my respect, as give me four wheels, a heater and windscreen wipers any day! ;D ;D ;)

I've nearly got all my gear finally, just waiting on the boots from Daytona in Germany to be made, as I need custom made boots & they are costing me in excess of £400!!!

Plus still need the bike fixing since my off a few weeks back in the ice  ::)  But I reckon all it needs is the handlebars bending back in place :y

£400 quid!? blimey

I went to a shop down the road, tried on about 4 different sets, found the one i liked, they happened to be the cheapest.

I paid £100 for them, although i was lucky he said he did not normally stock size 12's apparently bikers tend to have size 9 or 10!

I know its a bit late  for you, but for other members, try Alt-Berg in Richmond, N. Yorkshire ( if they are still trading ) I got mine there years ago and they are really good, comfortable off the bike as well, easy to walk in, I think they do a custom made service as well, and its closer than Germany. Good luck.

Tried and failed, most places only do customs upto size 50 base, I need 51 base & other sections being bigger too...
