Honestly thought they were straight forward to fit when I looked at them on fleabay. Never bought them though being honest.
Make sure you have a separate switch for them though mate as think you can get nicked if they are on the normal horn switch :y

I had dixie horns on my MK 1 granada, should be just a case of 12v supply, horn i think did its sequence then stopped. i may be wrong as this was quite a long time ago. seem to think that any air horn above 2 tone is illegal these days?.

I ain't exactly sure what you can get done for but was told not to wire them to your normal horn switch...
If I remember rightly, there is a small compressor powered from your battery, then a few tubes to the horns... It is two years since thingin about having them  ::)

Pretty sure that they are illegal LK. On the highway that is.

they are easy the horns have a colour that coresponds to the top of the compressor.then you need a seprate switch through a relay as the draw a lot of current, the only proplem with this i found it reduces how loud they are[dont no why].ahorn 2 be legal has to omit a single tone.ps point them down so they dont ingress water

Earth plus a live.  Make sure the live feed is fused and via a relay as the are heavy on the juice.

Must be fitted with a non locable type horn switch.

Normally 5 trumpets.  Cut air tube to length, and each horn is generally colour coded with a ring to the correct fitting on pump.

Fit the pump securly, if you drill any holes then put a dab of paint on the hole afterwards to stop rust.

Bugger off in to the middle of nowhere and enjoy as they are illegal.

Only law I am aware of these days may be they are allowed to be fitted on pre 1972 cars but are not allowed to used as main horn.

Hope it all helps.

Can't remember the reason maybe your right. That would be the reason why you need them on a separate switch  ;)

IIRC they're illegal on cars firts used after around 1973 ie 'Historic' taxed cars. There used to be loads of cars on the road with Dixie years ago.

I had La Cuka Racha air horns in my chevette.  I wired the centre pin of a two way swticth the the feed from the horn.  Position 1 was the normal horn and then I wired position 2 to a relay fused to the battery and then to the horns.

I also fitted the horns on a detachable bracket that had 2 bolts holding the lot in, then I could take them out at MOT time.

It can't be as simple as that. My Omega & Astra have twin tone electric horns 500Hz & 400Hz  ;)

How about these ... clicky (http://www.trainhorn.org/Train-Horn-Samples_ep_36-1.html)  ;D ;D Should wake a few pedestrians up!

The vast majority of cars have twin tone horns, both working on different frequencies at the same time, to produce one single not.  Not that I'm a piano player, the same as hitting a few keys at the same time to make one noise instead of one finger on one key.

Digging the dusty gloom of my memory, I think its onle legal to use 'musical' horns on a pre 1972 registered vehicle.  Any other use either as the main audible warning instrument or as the plaything for a bored eejit, is naughty and entirely nickable....

We need to remember that there is a difference between 'twin tone' and musical (alternating) horns. As said many horns and basic air horns are twin tone and legal on all cars. Musical (alternating) horns are OK pre 1972, even as main horn. Alternating dee dah horns, like the Police are not legal, though I used to have an ambulance that I fitted them too, cos the electric dee dah stopped working, got them from the local ambulance workshops, it also had blue lights and 65 mph flat out. It also had a transmiter fitted that when switched on with the blue lights turned traffic lights to green for you. Bedford J series...... :)
