Title: Do you like my Sat Nav Mount?
Post by: Auto Addict on 04 January 2007, 11:51:00
I stuck a small thin piece of clear plastic under the dash, and using the windscreen bracket, fixted the Sat Nav to it.

Looks good Auto Addict but can you still read your MID ok :y

Looks as though the MID is blocked although if you dont look at the MID it shouldn't be a problem.

Not bad! I'd been thinking about mounting mine thereabouts, but had been thinking of buying one of those mounting brackets that slot onto the air vents. This looks slightly less costly!

Solves the problem of sun glare on the Sat Nav screen also.

Looks good AA & should solve another problem too.  Thieves are now looking for the sucker marks on windscreens which indicate Sat Nav used and probably left in the glovebox, then its simply a quick in and out and they're off to sell it on Ebay.  ;)

Yes, I didn't like it stuck onto the windscreen, even when driving, for all in sundry to see.

I found a way to sit the suction bracket on top of the open ash tray, it's quite firm & well out of the way:-

No I take the whole lot in & out,  the bracket fits between the bottom edge of the CCDR / ash tray, the lever on the suction cup in the on position but not 'stuck' to the ash thray, just wedged in - a good fit.

That's an excellent solution AA.  But how did you manage to glue the plastic to the bobbly surface?

The little GPS sucker is very neat compared to the TomTom one, which is about 3 feet long.

My TT solution......again!
I sometimes stick it over the tacho so I can fully see the MID.  After all, what use is a tacho in a non-manual?

finally got round to fitting mine.......took all of 30 seconds

I bought it from dashmount, the cost was the one factor that has always put me off, they look to be made from cheap meccano type metal.
How wrong was i!!
This is quality, it doesnt flex and looks very sturdy, and i can move the whole mount from left to right so i can get access to the vents.

Ahhh the Navman F20.......  Same unit I have although I find the spoken directions too quiet.

I used to have a Garmin i3 until it got nicked back in November, when 3 of the windows (windscreen, passenger side front and passenger sie rear) got smashed.  Grrrr!!

The Garmin was a cracking little unit and had a very loud clear voice but the Navman's voice by comparison is very weedy.

Personally, to avoid having the tell tale circles on the screen, I use the dashtop mount that came with the Garmin and attach the cradle to that instead.

My SatNav is TomTom software running on Mio PDA, I hang the thing dangling from the sunroof, the sucktion cap is very strong so not problems there. The screen is facing me, but I don't actually look at it while driving I only listen to the voice instructions. This setup works for me becuase (a) I find that having a screen in front of you can distruct, (b) it can also actually obscure, (3) the satellite reception through the sun roof is spot-on. Must remember not to try and open the sunroof in the summer while the kit is stuck to it though....
