Title: Have you ever heard summat as daft as this!
Post by: Taxi_Driver on 07 January 2007, 19:02:50
Neighbour took his VeccyC to the vx dealer for a 60k service and to have a look why the damping glovebox doesnt dampen open anymore.....it justs drops straight down.

Well they did the service....and i even popped open his air box this afternoon to check they had changed the air filter which he got charged for.....they had so no complaints there.

But.....when he went to pick it up last wed....they told him we've found the reason for the glovebox not opening smoothly.....it needs a new damper.....ok he said how much....£68....he was told....ok he said fit one....they said it needs to be ordered.....so you have to pay £40 for diagnosis now and another £68 when it comes in.....so he asked so how much would it of cost if you had one in stock.....£68 he was told....so he asked you are charging me an extra £40 because you dont have one in stock.....umm yes sir if you look at it that way.....fortunately he told em to fubar off and refused to pay the £40 coz they didnt have the part in stock...he got asked to keep the 'noise level' down and eventually the service manager scrubbed the £40 off the bill.....

So basically it would have cost £68 if they had it in stock but as they didnt they tried to charge him £108!!!  >:(

Dont think hes flavour of the month at my local vx dealer either now  ;D

I think they simply got it wrong… it is quite customary to charge for diagnostic if you choose NOT to go ahead with the repair (regardless on whether the item is in stock or not etc), but not if you do go ahead….

Agreed MJ.....but i couldnt believe it as he tried to pay them £68.....but they wanted £108 as they didnt have one in stock....the descriptions he gave of the guys behind the desk were the service manager plus his two muppets.....they should know better.... >:(

They would just have been following the book - no logical thinking allowed  ;D

It was in having a service.  No Tech2.  So they pushed the release button and closed the flap a couple of times and want £40!!!!  I'd like to see that justifed  :(

I think its best I not mention anything about my favourite dealer. It only upsets me. Besides, I think I'm under the threat of a ban from LB66 if I do slag them off again  :-X

I am more than happy to slag them off as I am having to put right the work they have done wrong......like fron tcamber being set....to 2.8deg....not the 1.2 ideal..!

Etc etc etc.....note, Crownhill are part of the Pendragon group.....

I think they were not actually following the book... it would make sense to charge £40 diagnsotic if they don't have the part in stock and the customer did not pay for it in advance - as he may not come back for it - but in this case the £40 should have been taken-off the £68 once the job was finally done.

As for charging for diagnostic - even if they don't have Tech2 - it is their prorogative to charge because they spent the time of their service receptionist and a mechanic etc, and I have no problem with that as long as it is made clear up front and before commencing work. Having said that, many independent garages will not charge for diagnostic visit so custumers should vote with their feet. One local pub in Victoria charges 20 Pence if you go to their loo without buying a drink... but this is part of the London money-making culture I suppose...

I am equally happy to slag them off - I paid the bastards to screw up my car.

* They are crap
* They are thieving bastards
* They don't know their arses from their elbows
* They don't understand the cars they are working on
* They don't use common sense
* They diagnose by replacement
* They are crap.

Oh,  did I mention they are crap, theiving bastards.

LOL.  I should be responsible and say that is harsh and unfair. However, I cannot disagree with any point made, and could add a few of my own.

If you didn't live is Swindon I would think your talking about a certain dealer in the WM.

Remember, it took them 18 months to find out it was my cam sensor.
