No, not as a pet.
It has taken up residence under my decking just outside my patio doors. The sod's built a nest there, too. Tonight I heard the tell-tale gnawing on the wood and then saw a nose and two feet appear in the gap between the decking and the wall of the house. >:(
Got a BIG rat trap, so tomorrow up comes a section of decking and down goes the trap. Only problem is that the screws holding down the boards have gone a bit manky. I took one out today and half the screw remained in the hole. The screwdriver then needed a charge, so the rat got a stay of execution.
I haven't decided on its last meal yet. Maybe peanut butter. :y

Try a piece of cooked sausage. Make sure you tie it to the trap with some cotton wrapped around it to make sure the rat has to tug at it, SNAP!!! jobs a gud un. :y

we have had mice in the shed for a few months, finally decided to clear them out on christmas eve, after finding out they had eaten into one of the kids selection boxes.
Emptied all the crap out into the garden - the dog started sniffing a box before nudging it over to start chasing a mouse around
went to tidy the box up and found the contents of it's nest - 2 new born babies :-/
could'nt bring myself to crush them to death - put them in the nest and moved them to the end of the garden , in the hope the mice would take them and move house :(

We have rats where we park our coaches, and cause we do school runs and little darling children leave rubbish everywhere they keep gettting in the coaches either by chewing holes in the gear gaitors or knawing through different bits of the wiring harness...Boss is going mental.
But when i was at the yard cleaning two days ago i got off my coach to pick up my bucket and there was a BLOODY GREAT BIG FAT RAT watching me - and i am not ashamed to say i jumped about 3ft in the air and started making weird noises and shaking! - the rat just looked at me and wandered off under my coach.
I thought rats were long skinny things , this looked like a rabbit!!

You need to use poison to make sure you kill the whole lot. I hate rats with a vengence even to the point of not getting wooden decking because the Bstds like living under them. >:(
-
if you want to stop them coming back find the entrance [or any other gaps] & stuff with wire wool, they dont like chewing it for some reason, we done it where i used to work & worked a treat, mind you they then got under my monza & chewed the fanbelt. i found out when i turned the key & heard a strange squeak, reversed up & noticed a busted belt & a big rat wriggling on the floor with a leg hanging off & another running backwards & forwards in a panic. :( :(

Yes, I probably do need to get some poison in. For the time being, though, I've baited a trap and stuck it underneath the decking. Just waiting for the "crack" as Roland gets it. ;)
