Hi guys
I have a tomtom query. We have a TomTom one here, with no internal memory, everything on SD card.
The original SD card popped out and was lost. I have restored all the TomTom files and maps folder to another SD card, put it in the machine, and all it will say is no maps found.
I have played with the currentmap.dat file but not entirely sure what path/structure to use.
I’m confused, any ideas on how to make this work? Tomtom support are useless.
Just to add, it’s all owned and legit!!
Cheers
James

Just a thought. Can you not prepare an SD card containing the maps using the PC-based application that comes with the tomtom?

you can backup and restore - not sure there is an option to "create" or prepare an SD card, though :(

I have TT 510 & just copied all the files from the memory card they supply (its too small) so then popped a larger SD card in it & copied the files from my pc , added what I wanted , voices, updates etc & it worked fine, if its a 510 James can post you my original TT SD you could copy it & then post it back :y Or go on MSN ad can send you the files all zipped up takes a bit to transfer but it will do it .. :y
PS the TT's are registered and have numbers for each persons TT
edited mines a TT 510 model not 710 :-[

If you browse to the TT in the root dir of it, there should be a folder called something like, in my case it is called 'GB_plus_major_roads_of_WE'
Thats the map folder.....if thats not there your in trouble.....if it is the best way to proceed is to let the TT rebuild itself.
You should have TTHome 2.5 installed on your pc.
Make sure you have a copy of the map folder on the pc.
Now you do the following at your own risk, but it works for my TT510, so should work for them all.
Format the SD card with FAT32
Next copy the map folder back to the TT
Startup TTHome2.5, it will look for updates for your TT
Download and install everything it offers, rebooting the TT after TThome has offered an update......you repeat the download/reboot process about 3 times iirc.
Now it should be finding the map ok......
Finally
http://www.tomtom.com/6178
Download and run exe , it flashes the TT bios to latest version
HTH :y

I seem to recall a friend of mine having a similar problem when he created the SD card with a card reader instead of through the tom tom unit... Did you plug the unit into the PC and do it that way??? That's how he managed to get it to work :y :y :y

Pretty much as TD says above to recover... ...seem to recall its asks you to activate the map though...

Good point, you may need the code for the map......tho i find its hit and miss if it asks for it......the two times ive rebuilt my TT510 using this method, it hasnt asked.

I just used FAT, wonder if that's the issue.....

Probably makes little difference to the TT, have you let it rebuild itself as per above?

Would be surprised if the TT could support FAT and FAT32

Trying it now, but I don't think TomTom Home can connect to the internet at work. Will need to try at home later... it just keeps hanging here...

Sounds like a similar problem I had with mine when I changed the SD card to a larger one to add more maps etc, check you arent using a high speed one, there is a name but I cant remember it! I shoved a normal (slow?) one in and its fine now.
