Hi guys & gals
Well its time according the doctors to have a heart valve replacement, my breathing as been getting gradually worse (over a 10yr period) and the in the last 2 years it as caused me a quite a few problems even just walking I get out of breath, he said, it needs doing now as leaving it could cause more problems for me putting more strain on the heart, so I am going in hospital on the 13th Jan and they are doing the operation on the 14th, if all goes well should be home and back on my pc in 6-8 days.
Then nurse Swimbo will be looking after me as evidentially the chest bone (which is opened up takes quite some time to heal). :( :-/Yuk!
Then hopefully will be riding my mountain bike as haven’t touched it for like 2yrs at least and even get a round of golf in which I haven’t managed to do for well over a year, also sadly I wont be allowed to drive for (6-8) weeks according to the surgeon doing the operation . :'(
So hopefully I will be on the forum writing my usual dribble in the not too distant future, probably will be on before Tuesday but a few jobs to sort out before then :y

Hi, i do wish you all the best with the op, my dad had a triple bypass in 1981, he is still going strong now at the age of 80. All my very best to you, im sure you will be fine. jon. :y

Best of luck Willyboy... That particular sword of Damoclese has swung over me a couple of times recently.... Managed to circumvent the need thus far for rib cracking but, to be honest, I dont think the mountain bike (over rough ground certainly...) nor indeed golf will be looming quickly on the horizon, sadly...
Take your time. Its major invasive surgery and, so I'm told, if you persue active tasks that work the chest/breastbone overly early, 'tis not a good thing, longer term. From a long time friend who opens breastbones for a living....
Drastic though that reads, it will undoubtedly open doors that have hithertoo been locked to you of late. Enjoy your new found health to the best of your ability but dont overdo it early doors.... :y

Good luck :y When I was in hospital for my Lung Cancer I was on the same ward as the heart opps. the patients were nearly all up and running in 5 days. You may wish to take in a small, but solid cushion, though they can be made with a blanket, you will need this to hold against your chest when you want to cough. ;D

My wife had a qaudruple bypass two years ago and her health has improved greatly.
You will be well cared for. The people who work in the cardiac units are very good.

All the very best for the op. Remember, afterwards, small steps to recovery are far better than trying to overdo it! Do as you are told and all will be well ..... also ... from one what knows .... don't try to tough out the pain ... take anything on offer :D

Thanks for all the good wishes, will be getting a laptop brought in a cple of days after the op so hopefully if wi-fi is available I will be posting, just wont be reading any jokes as told not to laugh much after op LOL ! :y ;D ;D ;D ;D

just make sure you do what they say afterward!
pops had a tripple bypass 2yrs ago and he was as fit as an ox, his valve was colapsing thats why they did the op.
the only thing was they were not spacific with the exercises after wards that he was meant to be doing. they said 20 press ups a day so he did 20 a day what he didnt realise was they were press ups against the wall, what with him being an ex raf regiment warrent officer. he now has a gap between his breast bone which will not heal shut! but all is well with him now:)
