Right then SWMBO phoned me on her way home from work to tell me her EML was on - had been flashing but now constant. It's the lamp with the engine symbol.
When she'd driven the few miles home I thought about connecting my Cheapo Tech II, but that meant going across town to get my Dad's laptop, then I remembered about the 'pedal trick' so ..... it flashed 10 ... 3 ... 10 ... 2 which I know is 0302 and means ... apparently :-/ a mis-fire on number 2 pot. (I thought the fault flashed up on the engine light however it flashed up on the engine + spanner light :-?)
It's cold & I really don't want to be under the bonnet at the moment but has anyone had a similar fault with their 4 pot DBW Omega & fixed it with other than a new coil pack?
I even taught 'my expert' a new trick -- he'd never heard of the 'pedal trick' .... but there again he has his own Tech I & II ;)

Not an answer to your question Andy, but another question.
How does engine management know #2 is misfiring? Is there a knock sensor on each cylinder that is also used to detect regular ignition.. Or is the DIS pack monitored?
TIA

Not a clue mate! Magic! ;D ;D Apparently code 300 is a general misfire & 301 to 304 is a misfire on 1 to 4 cylinders. Modern electrickery is seemingly very good. :y :y :y :y
I'm sure that someone (MarksDTM) will know or find out. ;) :y :y

Start cheap - PLUGS

I knows because its a coil per plug setup....so it fires the cylidner and listens for the firing via the knock sensor.....hence no ignition, no signal detected and miss fire stored against a specific cylinder.
On the case of engines of this era, they often shut the injector off to proctect the cat so you end up running on 3 cylinders until you restart (assuming its now clear).
This is normaly the coil pack going.....
Z16XE or XEP (twin port)....
which is either:

EML still on but seems to drive fine, I even tried diving it hard-ish and the thing just accelerated as normal ... it even idled OK. It's the Z16XE engine.
Bloody Hell! Vauxhall want £104+vat even on Trade Club!!
SWMBO will have to go to work in the Omega tomorrow & I'll call for a set of plugs for hers on my way home from work, as said ... the cheapest first. :y

A new set of plugs has sorted it! :y :y :y The old plug looks just the same as the others, same colour, no bits missing, no oil, no cracks around the coil pack ..... but who cares? The EML is out, SWMBO is happy ;D & I can keep my wallet in my pocket! ;) ;) ;) :y :y :y

It's back! :'( :'( :'(
But this time I've got 0300 and 0302 so it looks like I'll be buying another coil pack after all! :(

NOooooooooo!!!!! :y :y :y
Anything but those bloody things! They kept their setting for the first ...... 100 yards cos either they wore where they ran against the cam or the faces of the points spiked! Getting rid of them on my Manta was the best thing I ever did. ;) ;) ;) :y :y

At least you could fix them, regularly................. ;D

Work of the devil, had them on a bike - an absolute nightmare. All my cars have been electronic ignition if carbed

I replaced a set for a friend once - not as easy as checking air gap on the distributor pick up on my Sunbeam of similar vintage

New generic coil fitted. So far & £75 later there's no EML ....... :-X
-
Famous last words! :(
The bloody EML is back on ...... :'( Same codes as before 0300 & 0302 which .... if I've got the right fault codes is :- General misfire & misfire on No 2
Any suggestions would be most gratefull as I've now run out of ideas. New plugs a few weeks back & a new (generic) coil pack last Thurs less than 20 miles ago. :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/ :-/
-
wiring/connector to the pac/knock sensor?
-
No more suggestions then? :(
Fuel rail came out today, as I was going to try to swap injectors over to see if the misfire 'moved' but I couldn't pull the injectors from the rail - I didn't want to break owt & I was wary of he time for setting off to work. All electrickery connections to injectors & engine ECU looked OK and were fully home ...... :-/ :-/ :-/
