For my new ALFA 156 GTA?
Alfa romeo recomends 10w60 selenia.
I thought i would get a present to myself so i bit the bulet and got one. It is a 03 1 owner from new 32000miles sportwagon alfa red. I'm picking it up from the local dealership on Saturday.
The omega is going for sale unfortunatelly.
thats the news for the moment. :) :)

Nice one Kostas. Lovely cars those, and the GTA...mmmmm! :D
However, keep the Omega, you'll need it when the Alfa is being repaired! ;)
Now, 10w60??? That's a racing oil! :o ... and a seriously expensive one!

You had V6's in the past , what did you use? I hope its going to be as reliable as the omega.

Apparently this is correct, Car Mechanics Magazine seem to think that all alfas should be ran on Selenia 20k Long-Life oil, which I understand is semi-synth.
Personally I never heard of Selenia before, and it is also unsual for a car maker to specify the brand of oil to be used in their vehicels.
Nor can I understand why the Alfa engines are different than the rest of the world i.e. why they need a special brand of oil.
I don't think that Mobil-1 oil will do the engine any harm... or Vx own for that matter, as long as you stick to the manufacturer's recomended viscosity and grade (e.g. SL).
But if you run a search for Alfa forums and Selenia oil, I am sure you will find the oil threads going wild are not an exclusive Omega thing...

The oil they specify is an oil designed for pretty extreme operating conditions.
Now, the GTA is a quick car, but a full blown racer it is not.
The only reason I can think of is that it will allow for much longer service intervals
Personally I would run it on a good fully synthetic oil with changes every 5k.

From memory this unit is an evolution of the old Ferrari Dino engine of the 60's....so it wouldn't surprise me in the least if it required fancy oil.
The biggest problem with these cars (which is why they dont suit my requirements) is the naff boot space but, thats the price of a Mcpherson strutt rear suspension setup.
Enjoy......and if you can gte some spare engine sensors (MAF is a favourite) on ebay snap them up.

At least one of Alfa's new engines is based on GM V6 block - so we can safely use Vx semi-synth on that one when it's on the market.... ;D

You are a bank of Information, indeed the initial design was made by Dino Ferrari in 1951.
I know about the MAF's i might get a spare one.

The selenia oil is made by a company called Tutela, which in the past was called Olio Fiat. So i assume that there is some business relationship between them.
