Well I'm back :)

Reason I went was because I had Pneumonia a few years ago, and as I've been taking a course of antibiotics to cure a current chest infection, that is why i went...

So they've taken me off the Erythromycin and put me on something called Ciprofloxacin?! New to me!

Just said take it easy, and should feel better... Keep up with the cocodamol and thats about it really??

No fit nurses tho :( I feel cheated by the NHS!!

They might not be perfect .... buty they did OK for us for a very long time and I'm sure you can't go a day without using some form of Imperial measurement.  ;)   ;)  ;)  ;)  ;) :y

Only becasue the sados of the Uk wont let go!

Trouble is I have to do calculations based on units....and imperial is absolute shite for that!

And hence why it should be killed off NOW

He he. Just been watching some programme on Discovery where they are very careful, in the commentary, to keep all units metric, to the point of tedium.

.. until some Yank wanders into shot and says "ooh, that's about 6 feet across!". ;D

The people who thought up the Imperial system were streets ahead of their time. Look at length, 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16 etc. That's powers of 2, eg binary which modern computers are based on, not silly metric  ;D

And imperial units are so much more recogniseable, I'm sure you all recognise the measurement "a baw-hair" as 2 thou, a lot more easy to remember than 0.0508mm.  ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D

Hmm, and if it has 1 degree increments, imagine the extra control you would have!
betting it still uses C, and rounds the display to match though.

So you work in litres per kilometer when calculating fuel consumption? :-/
Title: Re: So I'm running a temperature of 102 degrees...

liter per mile....as we dont have sensible road signs....the only imperial measure I use is miles and pints, and thats coz I dont have any choice!

I cant actually picture how far a mile is (and have not got a clue how many meters it is), a Km I can picture!

Thing is that metric has been taught as the main units in schools for 25-30 years now so we must be approaching the point where half the population is not imperial aware....so lets change!

It is also the main stay of industry and our clinging on to imperial wont help us on the global market!!

Trouble is mark......some metric measurements have no logic to them..........take beer for example.....

Stella 284ml.......this is fine as it is exactly half a pint.
300ml.....330ml......440ml.......what the f##k is that......had a Bud the other day 208ml......please.

250 ml ...is O.k ish......a quarter of a litre.....or approx a quarter of one and three quarter pints in old money......as Ken said earlier in this thread imperial is much more easy to understand. :y :y :y :y

A thing with metric measurement is a lack of a distinct unit between cm and meters. In imperial we have distinct units that people can visualise, eg the inch, the foot, the yard, then a bit of a break (uneless you count furlongs !) then the mile. I can visuallise most of these but in metric you have mm, which is near 1/16, cm which is near 1/2, then a big gap up to a meter which is a bit over a yard. There is no unit in the middle. Its hard to visualise a mile or km because there are no easy sub units like furlong or whatever.

Long live 304.8mm  :y

Well, it's real fun learning to glide. Horizontal speed in knots, Vertical speed in knots, feet per minute or metres per second depending on the aircraft. Horizontal distance in nautical miles or KM, vertical in feet. Speed in knots. Pressure in millibars. Weight in pounds or kilos selected seemingly at random. ::)
