Title: Have you got a Photo Card Licence?
Post by: belldarr on 16 January 2009, 17:18:50
Hi all - had an email at work today from our compliance team (??) they were warning everyone that has the photo card driving licence that the very first ones were issued almost 10 years ago - and that they were now due to expire!! Apparently you have to pay £17.50 to renew it so may be worth checking yours if you were one of the first to convert (think it was a free offer when they first came out) otherwise it could cause problems and possibly a fine of up to £1000.  I think the renewal date is section 4b on the front of the licence.  May well be someone over-reacting but always worth checking  :y

Regards

Darren

Yep!! mine is due to expire in 6 months.

the daft thing is I'm moving next month so I'ii have to sent of my license to get the address changed (law) which is Free and then in a few months time sent it back to get renewed which will cost £17.50 :-?

I'd be tempted to send in the new photo and get it done at the same time :y :y :y

Whilst I do agree with the 10 year validity, mainly because we all change a lot in 10 years... I know I look nothing like my photo, which is only about 7 years old!

I do feel that £17.50 is a bit steep though... I'm sure it could be cheaper than that as all they have to do is scan in the new picture and print the new licence... £10 I'd swallow (still begrudgingly mind) but £17.50 FFS... Money for old rope! >:( >:( >:(

The motorist is a soft target, simple as that.the government never stop dreaming up new ways to extort more money fromus, wether it be cameras, driving licences or so called environmental taxes.
How they can give the go ahead for the expansion of Heathrow after all the green taxes we have been stung by in recent years is rather outrageous, even by new liebour standards. >:(

Banking isn't free!!!!

They pay you a measly interest rate on any money you have in your account and lend your money to borrowers at somewhere close to 50 times the rate they pay you... Then you have the extortionate charges if you go overdrawn!

This is why banks are posting record profits year on year ::) ::)

That's supposed to be for highway maintenance  ::) ::) ::) ::)

Not defending the DVLA, who incidentally have nothing to do with how much car tax is... They just have to collect what the government tell them to, just pointing out the facts ::) ::) ::) :y :y :y

The link between "car tax" and highway maintenace was severed a long time ago, which could be why it is now called vehicle excise duty. :(

Me too !  Don't seen the need to have a plastic. Paper jobbie is usually required along with the plastic anyway.

Mainly useful if you travel abroad and want to hire a car... Some countries are getting really fussy about paper licences ::) ::)

Plastic one is a waste of time - everyone only wants to see the paper part !
