Title: Vauxhall NIL   me  1.... TC/ABS
Post by: MartinP on 13 January 2007, 23:58:57
After reading a thread on here where an ABS module was changed over, I started looking at mine as I have had no speedo, TC or ABS for most of this year.

and the MOT is due in a fortnight  :o

My ABS unit is as follows;

3.0 MV6 98R

Main body marked as DX
0265220427
9127952

Bosch unit marked 771559
0273004206

2.5 V6 98R

Spare ABS unit marked as DJ
0265220427
90538656

Bosch ABS unit marked 762543
0273004206

removed the battery, 3 multiplugs and base unit next to the battery and the top radiator hose.

Drew a deep breath and started to remove the 6 screws holding the Bosch unit on, was tricky but got there in about 30 mins, swapped teh unit over and put 4  :-[ screws back in (didn't put the hard ones in as I may have had to take them out again).

re-assembled, topped up the water, refitted the battery and turned the key.

THE TC AND ABS LIGHTS ONLY WENT OFF  :o 8-) ::) :y :y :)

re-checked all the connections and went for a test drive.

I now have a working speedo, tripp counter, functioning ABS (tested) and TC (tested)

I am a happy bunny

Get it on a tech2 now.
Your TC is programmed for a 2.5 not 3.0, 1 minute to reprogram to correct car.
Well done on the job though!

You may need variant reprogrammed as set for wrong engine. Tech2 I'm afraid.

Good man. Fancy writing a How2?

There was a general description of how to, on here already, I just followed that.

I wasn't on long enough last night to find it and "doff the cap".

(SWMBO was moaning, "you've either been up the garage or on the computer, why don't you sit with me and watch the tele")

I have tried to include as much info on the units so that if anybody else want's to give it a go they can compare.

OK found the HOW TO... in the "Maintenance Guides"

Author Steve_W

I didn't remove

-Engine relay/ ECU box
-Coolant transfer pipe (thermostat feed pipe) (for clearance)
-Top plenum (optional but easier to locate the transfer pipe properly with it off)
-PAS pipe from top of pump for clearance
-PAS reservoir (ideally but can be moved out of the way, but will stretch pipes.) moved it out of the way & tied it up

it was fiddly but can be done with patience  ;)

Can't remember what we decided about your g/box being programmable?

Any chance of getting hold of the failed one so I can strip it and try to determine themode of failure....

If you can imagine... a picture of two oil covered forearms dissappearing into the engine bay as though they had handcuffs on, a thoughtful and sometimes quizzical expression on my face.  :)

I don't think any other picture would help really.  ;D

Definitely, I was going to offer it to TB to see if he could gleam anything from it.

It would only go in the bin otherwise.

After reading this thread, I decided to give it a go on the wifes 1999 2.5 GLS Auto , as it has had the TC / ABS lights and no speedo for a few months and the MOT was due.

Went to my local breakers and had a look round there Omegas, for the closest match to mine, found a 2.5 manual Saloon on a V plate, they only had a 2.0 auto estate, I thought the this would be the closest match.

The breakers charged me £20 for the ABS control Unit

Managed to strip the only out the donor Omega in about 30 minutes, there was already a few bits missing under the bonnet when I started.

Anyway to cut a long story short, i followed the instructions on here, and fitted the new one, could only get 4 of the 6 screws back in.

Took about a hour to fit in, I topped the power steering fluid back up, and decided to turn the key and see if all my hard work and scratched arms had had been worth it.

started the engine, both lights went out!, took it for a test drive, speedo worked, tested the ABS and TC all working fine, problem solved. I didn't have the car or ABS unit reprogrammed or anything.

Took it for a MOT and it passed!

I did this back in the summer, meant to post my results sooner, but only just got round to it!

I think the problem was caused by oil leaking from Cam covers onto the ABS unit, the electrics had oil on them when I had a look.

Anyway, the Omega died last month, and has now joined its Brothers in the same scrap yard as I got the ABS unit from .

Thanks guys for posting your experiences on here, it gave me the courage to attempt this.

Just got the wife another Omega, a 2.5 Auto CDX on a S plate this time, far better car then the one before

Doesn't seem necessary if you can interchange the units for scrap ones.

Unless, of course, you really enjoy taking things to bits and fiddling with them for hours to see if you can make them work.

But no one would be bothered, would they? :D

I don't know!?! Our dining room table disappeared under the varous bits that made up my sister-in-law's hall light last night.  :-?I was determined to fix the bugger.
I won in the end!!!  ;D  ;D  ;D  :y
I always get a feeling of satisfaction when I fix something.

I thought that the 2.0 (2.2) ecu wasnt and couldnt be programmed with TC.....so how could this operate the TC in a 2.5(2.6) or 3.0(3.2) ???

No he replaced a 0273004206 abs ecu with another 0273004206 abs ecu.  The 0265220427 number is the nş on the abs module.
