Title: Well, It's cost me so far....
Post by: sev on 19 January 2009, 20:29:56
1500 quid including the cost of the car to get the mig to where it is now.

I bought the car for 250 with a years MOT on it.

I done a full service, oil, plugs, coolant

fuel air and pollen filters, cambelt, cam cover seals,

new HT leads,

New suspension and springs front and rear, new wishbones and droplinks.

new discs and pads on the front and still to fit;

new discs pads and shoes on the rear, and abs sensors and pad wear sensors, and a new front drivers wing and mirror as the previous owner's missus used them both as parking sensors.

I've got a high level brake light of Marky, and elipsoidal projectors of Ilovemyelite - all fitted with osram nightbreaker bulbs.

Still to do is the gearbox oil and filters, diff oil and PAS fluid changes, and when I fit the ABS sensors, hopefully they should stop the lights otherwise it's the bugger of a job abs module.

And i've got what I think is a dead hydraulic lifter - as it seems to quieten down when the engine's warm rather than constantly rattling so hopefully not an exhaust gasket.

But.... it was all I could afford at the time with a years MOT, and repairing it as I went  was the only way around it.

I'd like to get a leather interior in it, but of course  it's polar sea blue, so the interior colour is limited and I want to avoid black, and do the sounds inside.

Or do I just say sod it, and call it a day on it...

I get quite attached to vehicles unfortunately  :-[- and the only one that did interest me was a mig which was on fleabay with a brken head gasket - a 3l elite, black with a cream interior which is the colour combo I like but Mrs sev went garrity at the thought of another dead vehicle on the drive!

I'm thinking do I just complete the mechanicals enough to make it sound, or just go the whole hog and complete the thing

if it was you guys what would you do...

If it was me I'd fix it. But I'd have a go at everything thats financially suicidal ;D

Well you're in a much better position than I am.

Bought mine in leichester for 700. Drove it to dublin. Needed new centre box, handbrake shoes, and then it decides to throw a rod :'(. Bought a new engine in nottingham that turned out to be complete b*llocks and needs to be completely rebuilt from the ground up.

But IT WILL NOT BEAT ME :D

Point is, if you do all the bits on it then you will have a car you know & trust. i would say keep on going with it. i have a 3.0l elite that i am going to do bit by bit whilst its off the road. Yep, carry on as the budget lets you. :y
