As above. The family are off to Salzburg then driving over to Vienna to stay with a couple of friends. Never driven a left hand drive in Europe :o. As well as it being manual(mine is auto) driving in the snow with the gearstick on the other side, should be an eye opener ::). Anyway has anyone stayed in Salzburg before and what places do they recommend. Hate churches and cathedrals, dislike shopping, can't stand Mozart, boy am i going to be bored. And can you smoke in the pubs :-/.
cheers

Driving on the right in a left hand drive car is easy... Just take your time to settle in to the routine of changing hear with your right hand!

Yes been to Austria 3 times now, twice by car and the last time by air. There is lot's to see and do. Many ski lifts are worth going up even if not skiing.
The Ice Caves are good and we enjoyed the Salt Mines. Last time we stayed in St Johann, which is very nice. We also like the the look of Ellmau but did not have time to visit.
25 years ago Zell am See was nice, 2007 not so, unless we found the only bad bit.
We only visit during the summer and trips to glossglockner are great but in winter don't no if that is such a good idea.
Austrians are nice friendly people who seam to be able to spot an English tourist from 5 miles away.
Enjoy excellant roads and little traffic except in major cities. No smoking indoors. Austria has population of only 8 million people, allthough this can double in the skiing season.

We went to Salzburg as part of out euro trip.
Very beautiful city with plenty to do.
We of course were not so interested in the site seeing.....the bars and clubs were very plentiful!
