Title: HDMI Cables
Post by: Elite Pete on 22 January 2009, 13:00:37
I want to link my Sky+ to the TV via a HDMI cable but there are loads about from 99p to silly money. Has anyone got any recommendations.

TIA ;)

Just make sure its 1.3b!! Should be fine with the ones for a few quid!! I wouldn't spend a fortune on a HDMI lead.  :y

Have a look on http://www.dabs.com/ProductList.aspx?ExposedRefinement=11002&NavigationKey=11125&CategorySelectedId=11125.

Anything between 20-40 quid will get you what you need. If you go too cheap mate, then the picture quality will be reduced. It all depends on what you're after I suppose, but look to spend about 30 quid.

I use a Belkin HDMI cable and paid about £40 for it and it gives really good picture quality.

All the same unless your going over 1.5 meter's...

The 99p one will do fine tbh Pete.

You will notice *no* difference to the overpriced stuff out there...

Totally Agree, no need to spend £30-40 on one.

I agree to a point.

Key things to be aware of:

Screening - The cable screening is important as interference can cause data errors, better cables are likely to have multiple screened cables rather than a single overall screen.

Impedance - The HDMI signals are VERY fast with edge speeds down at sub 1ns. Cheap cable will shape the pulse. In theory this should have little impact due to the signal also having a seperate clock but, could add jitter.

Having said that, about a fiver or so will get a reasonable lead.

Yep sorry I gave you duff gen Pete. I did a little hunting around t'internet and found some really good articles about it. Basically there's no difference between a 10 quid cable and a 100 quid cable.

Here's one of the best articles I found if you're interested: http://boardsus.playstation.com/playstation/board/message?board.id=ps3&message.id=828972

For the Wii's graphics, 2 baked been cans and bit of string will probably do. Sky HD to hd tv use hdmi, only way to get hd picture with that source, cable should have come in the box and been used at install...?

Sky HD isnt..........1080i or 720p at best and thats with a fair wind.....rarely achieves that due to bandwidth restrictions.
