I was just wondering if it were possible to have the forum only show pictures to logged in members?
I just worry sometimes about us all having our pride & joy on show and numberplates visible.
I don't know how much control admins have over this as I know the images are hosted on other sites but I have seen it done on other forums, you can't see posted images until you sign in so only members can view pics.
What do you think peeps?

It is so easy to sign up, not sure what it would acheive?

I know what you mean, I just thought it might give a little privacy to members, not everyone likes their number plates show thats all.
Fair enough all you'd have to do is sign up but it might stop opportunists taking advantage.
Maybe I am just being a bit over cautious, I dunno. :-/

I know what you mean, its easy to remove your own, from your own piccies, but other photos from meets etc, are not in your control.
I know when the forum was very young, we all used to check that noone minded before posting meet pics, but noone ever did.
So doesnt get asked anymore :-/

Yeah I tend to remove the plates on my photo's but like you say I have no control over other peoples pics.
But I would never want anyone to leave photo's of my car out for that reason.
Thats why I thought it would be a good idea to implement the restrictions. Lets face it, it wouldn't effect any of us! we all sign in anyway!
I just think it limits the chance of us being victims of cloning etc.
Its not totaly fool proof but every little helps in my oppinion. ;)

Hhhmmm, I know what you mean about being a bit untidy. I really don't think not being able to view a few pics will stop people joining though, its the overall quality of the site and the freindlyness that people will see first!

The particular way the software we use does it, it does make threads hard to follow tbh (hence why its never been enabled), both for humans and for web crawlers.
Additionally, its a blanket option, and we want potential new members to see, for example, the quality of our guides, so they can fix their Omegas, whether or not they decide to sign up - some people are too scared to sign up to sites as the Daily Mail has convinced them we are all Phaedos (thats spelt wrong - little boy molesters)

I wouldn't worry about your number plates being visable....there are enough live traffic cams for people who are looking to clone a reg to get one!

what about if we just did it on the gallery?
then it might be restrict it to just members and it wouldnt really deter people from the site?
just my thought because gallery is the place most of us tend to put full size pics

Its a global setting with the software we use, so can't just do for one board.

I always photoshop-out my number plates for public posting; but I can see that pictures snapped at meets present problems for those like I, whom worry (in general) about online privacy......but, being part of this great OOF community makes up for any such concerns. ;)

Is it not possible to print some "OOF" laminated numberplates out for the guys that go to the meets. They could easily be held on with DS tape, maskining tape etc.
If they could be made cheap enough I would be after a set to put on my cars before taking pictures.

Yeah but by having you Number plate on a public forum must increase the chance of being cloned ten fold!! And everyone knows that criminals are using Autotrader etc. to clone cars, but people are getting wise and blanking them off so they are gonna be looking for easy pray. Public Forums!!!

Agreed, i always blank mine out, but i have no control over Hazzy & his camera :( at the local meet. If someone wants to do some thing dodgey with say a black Omega then they could pop to the OOF & find mine or someone elses >:(
I think Skruntie's idea is a good one, just remember to remove them before driving home :D

To my knowledge, around these parts if someone wants to use your registration for something dodgy they just remove your plates for the car they are doing the job in!! ::) ::) ::)
With the billions of pictures there are of our cars and many others I just wouldn't let it bother us that our plates can be visible, as already said they can be noted by anyone, at any time, and anywhere when your car is not locked safely up in a garage!! :D :D :D ;)

This is true, it can happen anywere. But whats easier for a criminal? Go out driving around all day looking for a particular car in the right colour etc. or sit at home and search the net looking for public forums were people post pics of their pride and joy! easy pickings if you ask me. And like I said before its not stopping the risk or cloning completely just reducing the chances of it happening to us.
Better safe than sorry.
I really think the stick on plate is a fantastic idea, I'd even be happy to design the thing. :y

why not just bother to go onto paint/photoshop and write "OOF" on it instead, im sure most people have access to paint or photoshop :y

The problem is there are to many cars at meets to do this, it would take ages, there could be 15+ cars in one photo and there would be multiple photos to do. :'(

Agree that it is easier to trawl the net for plate No`s but they can be just as easily cloned from the street.

Would all 3 colours. White, yellow and black back grounds fit side by side on maybe an A2 sheet..
If they do, then decide on what they would be best printed on. Then maybe anyone that has a nearby printers might be able to get a price for printing and then the same inc laminating.
There is a place in Rotherham on Rawmarsh hill that used to be good on priceing but I cant remember his name.

Although this is in no way an official OOF thing, but keeping to one of our standard logos (ie, one at top of forum, or the saloon one you did earlier) would help to reinforce the brand, rather than lots of different logos?
