Title: Do Bank cards survive the washing machine?
Post by: philhoward on 24 January 2009, 08:52:56
Rather stupidly, i lobbed my jeans in the washer last night without checking the back pocket..to find my bank card staring at me through the door when it had finished...will it still work?? [smiley=embarassed.gif]

Luckily didn't lob it in the dryer as well...

Tip: To check if it still works, go into a supermarket and fill a large trolley to the brim. When you get the checkout......... ;D

Popped into the branch and it still works, but ordered another one.  I was told not to use it in a shop as the sig strip now just says VOID VOID VOID VOID VOID...you get the idea...they're not allowed to accept a card like that, apparently..

Tip for any motorcycling OOFers.
Don't chuck your cards (even in a wallet) in a Magnetic Tank Bag. As the cards move around in the bag the magnets that hold the bag to the tank will wipe the strip clean and render the card useless.

Had that happen once but once the card had fully dried (couple of days for the funny strip) it was back to normal

cards arent supposed to be accepted if any little part of the word VOID was at all visible, when i worked in a shop i exercised this rule VERY strictly, since i wasn't on comission it didnt affect me, but really pissed alot of people off! ;D

Chuck it in the tumble drier. Should get pretty much all of it off and trapped in the fluff filter.
