anyone else tried these? i fitted one on thursday and all i can say is WOW .
some people would say why bother but it is really a good piece of kit and just adds to the specs of the car :y

What is it :-?
-
Turns you lights on for you
-
What is it :-?
it is an automatic lights on and off module for automotives , basically when the light levels outside drop to a certain amount on come the cars lights ie driving into a tunnel and and as soon as you drive out they go off again,, this also works of a nightime as in the lights will automatically come on as soon as it start getting dark :y
-
But I can do that..... ::)

but i purchased mine new on ebay for less than half of what they are asking

Have seen one of them . How was the fitting.
-
I maybe the only one, but I have noticed a problem with them, the wife's Astra has it factory fitted, and where we live there is a road with many overhanging tree's and a sideroad in the middle which is difficult to get out of. Now the automatic lights can come on where your least expecting them to and someone in the side road may think your flashing your lights and pull out. I understand you should not pull out, but people do and I am more likely to be on the main road.
I am still really undecided about this feature.

Mercs do OK. I think there's a reasonable cross over of light levels required to turn them on & off.
The Merc's are also tied into the alarm in that it turns the front fogs on for a short time when you alarm it up in the dark ..... lights your drive up while you walk to the front door. :y
The Pointiac I hired a couple of years ago also did similar, but you could alter it all via the 'MID' if you wanted.

I have about 8 miles of road with intermittent tree cover on my way to work and I am forever wondering why the prat behind me keeps turning his lights on and off. Then I realise... ::)
TBH, I can't really see the point. How hard is it to remember to turn the lights on when it's dark?

It's obviously too difficult for some. ;)
It'd help too when it's foggy and you see clowns with no lights on at all, just because they can see where they're going just mean that hey can bee seen! A bit like the auto sweep of your wipers when you wash the screen, you can manage without it, but it's easier if it does it itself. :y :y

Sorry but I have to disagree, they seem to turn on even in bright sunshine, just because it has gone into a shady area, and as I said what happens if someone pulls out because they thoughtyou where flashing them out ?
The wife's old Volvo used to do that, was actually quite useful.

The wifes 307 has them. Quite like the option. Experience to date is that they go an and tend to stay on for considerably longer than the time of a couple of quick headlamp flashes.
And anyway, all a headlamp flash means is 'I am here' and not barge out in front of me/take the parking space/speed carera ahead/whatever.
Done a fair number of European tunnels whilst on holiday where headlamp use is mandatory and found it really usefull....

Yeah, in the make believe land of people who have read and abide by the highway code....
However on planet Stupid , it means 'do whatever the hell you want, i have flashed you and have nothing better to do than watch you try and remove yourself from the gene pool' >:(

Sorry, but does your car wear glasses? :D

Why do I get the feeling that if the law changed and we had to have these fitted, we'd complain enough to win gold if Winge 'n' Moan was an Olympic event.

The valeo kit that i fitted turns the lights on for a minimum of 20 seconds and as correctly mentioned above is a lot longer than a couple of flashes of the headlights
it really comes down to personal preference on whether or not you like them,
personally i think it is an excellent upgrade although maybe only for lazy people like me ;D

Have seen one of them . How was the fitting.
the fitting was a piece of cake there are only five wires to connect
one to earth, one to permanent live, one to switchable live , one to headlights and one to sidelights
(the one to sidelights has to be linked to two other wires (three in total) because the sidelights are run from two wires ,one for each side of the car and the next wire goes to the feed that illuminates the dash.
all in i would say it takes approx 45 mins to fit ,,, even less if a member has already fitted one and can tell you which wires are which ;)
p.s all wires are found directly on the back of the light switch
-
Think I will keep to switching them on myself...... really can't see the point, to be honest. But if you are happy then good for you.... :y

im a gadget person ya see , and im always looking for something to make my miggy a little different from the rest :y

does it haved to be wired to the ignition in some way as you can turn the side and head lights on and off without the key in the ignition
would hate to get up of a morning with a flat battery due to head lights being on all night

yes it does in a way, the unit does not work unless ignition is on because it has a switchable live connection :y
