Any one know anything about the law regards noisey neighbers.
Mine is a Single female 25/40 with 2 noisey dogs. I tolerate them as it is security for her and early warning of prowlers for me as I can hear them barking.
Since she split her husband about 5 years ago she has had her problems, but the last year or so she has taken to do her washing that ends up doing the spin cycle at 3am. She hoovers and moves furniture arround till 11pm. But tonight takes the biscuit. She has just got the hammer out and started doing DIY.
Other antics include uring the orbital sander whislt decorating and it resonating through the walls up till midnight at times.
Any advice would be appreciated.

A CIVIL knock on the door to start with. ;) ;) ;) :y

As with all these, a polite word (over a cup of tea?) has to be the first step. She may not be aware just how much the noise comes through or, as she is single and living there alone, she doesn't realise how what she is doing and the time she is doing it could be seen.
-
I would start by going around and asking her to be a bit more considerate ;)

Definately doesn't sound like the time to be thinking about the legal status - the best approach will be a friendly chat.
It may be something as simple as she's not aware she can be heard next door, etc....
(Our next door neighbour definately doesn't realise this - her bedroom backs onto ours and we hear some VERY interesting noises!!!)
(By the way, she is a lesbian teacher ;D :-* )

As far as noisey neighbours go.......i used to have one till he moved....used to like diy.....i once hammered on his front door....letting him know it was 11pm on a sunday evening....and not the time to be doing diy (he was drilling a hole in the ajoining wall at the time.....terrace house!)
He listened and stopped :y so you could try that :y ;)

Begs the question - does she take classes or give them??
simply curious, you understand..... :D
-
try an informal chat 1st
i have a problem neighbour who lets her dogs s**t in the garden and doesnt pick it up and deliberately plays loud music at 7am to wake my daughter up!
i am now in the process of getting the fat idiot evicted
FYI PCSO's are useful for sorting selfish neighbours out
-
PiP - fisrt try the conversation route, however daft that sounds. Then if it makes no difference, contact the Police. Cease and Desist type lawyers letters etc are a waste of your cash and carry no legal weight.

Night time OOF meet to be arranged ot James place very soon? :y ;D

.... and maintain a log of time, date, the type of noise, your actions, when you called the Police and their response, etc...

Been there and done that. She is quite calculating and I feel she likes playing the victim which is why I have ignored her till now.
I once had knock on the door at 2.30am just after her husband left. Was a really hot night and she sits in her kitchen with the door wide open. Well a mouse entered her house from the field accros the back of our estate. So as I say at 2.30am she came round and blamed me for it. 2 days later I got a visit from enviromental health who obviously found my house to be mouse free.
She is just a poo stirring gossip that has far too much time on her hands. After the verbal I have had in the past for being polite and not swearing at her when she is swearing at me then I want nothing more to do with her verbally. But would like to know where I stand regards the law.

Women weren't allowed to teach when you were a lad ;D ;D ;D

I would start by cutting through her electricity supply, either that or go round and sh* her brains out,so she is too tired to do diy of an evening. :y ;D ;D

regarding the washing machine, it could be that she has it running in off peak hours as its cheaper which is unfortunately why it spins in the early hours, ours is set to do that but our washer is in the furthest point of our house from the neighbour (semi-detached) and therefore disturbs no one
but yes, a civil approach is a wise first move for the other issues

Must agree with Danny, a polite word with her would be my recommended approach.
Recently had issues with a neigbour about our hedge encroaching the alley way- he went straight to the council, instead of mentioning it to me or the missus. had the council bloke out, had a chat explained our concerns about cutting the hedge back now - he's agreed with our view and is happy with the thickness of the hedge, which has pissed our neighbour off no end :y
Neighbour is now on the list of people that, if on fire are to be put out with a hammer >:(

i had one once, she was singing, quite loudly and crap during the night, went round with a hammer in my hand and asked her to quit the kareoke or i'd be making some alterations to her machine!! she was very quiet after that!!! then one of the other neighbours got stabbed so i moved!!
and the lesbian teacher, does she do practical lessons or is it purely text book stuff???

James, why dont you have a word with PiPs neighbour and ask her to put a couple of holes in your bedroom wall. That way PiP can have a peaceful night while his neighbour is away and you can find out what all the noise is next door ::) :D

I like to run through my list when i'm bored, don't mention it public, as the missus think it paints me as somewhat dangerous :o

First, try to talk as other members stated..
but dont use noise otherwise you wil give her a reason to defend herself..
-
i used to have that problem
not any more tho
i chose the "peace through superiour firepower method" http://www.superfi.co.uk/images/m74meduse.jpg
and two bridged power amps
If she makes noise at night and keeps me away then i play my music at voice coil glowing volumes at 9am when she is still sleeping.
didnt take long for her to work it out....

Noisy at 02:00 lets see, how about Van Halen at 08:00 LOUD, or lets try lobby scene from Matrix.
Running just below the limit for the front pair.

I keep trying to upset my neighbours; but to make an annoyance at 500 metres range gets expensive! ;D
Given a large enough P.A rig: Saint-Saëns` Symphony No. 3 in C minor; "The Organ Symphony" would be my weapon of choice.
*Played on the cathédrale Notre-Dame des orgues with a full supporting orchestra. ;)

yep.. either heavy metal or classic music have good effects..but still I think thats not a good solution ;D

She bloody well ought to.
Just had a bad night with her noise. After the 3am spin cycle she went on making noise throughout the night keeping me up all night.
She has been making even more noise all morning and her dogs have been really noisey at time.
Just had a chat with the neigbher the other side of her who lives in a detached house. We get on well and he does not relay any conversations to her of what we say. Found out she had a water leak last week from a crack in the bath. This in turn has knackered all her wall decor and wet the electrics in places etc etc. Maybe this is the reason for all the extra noise. Allthough the 3am washing issue is a daily thing.
Now based on the leak and the extra activity I thought I may as well let it ride and leave it all as is....untill, that is the guy the other side said that she is doing all her washing in his machine (even yesterday afternoon) So I questioned the 2 x uses of her washing machine late last night. Plus excessive use of his tumble dryer.
We also had a chat about me having a polite word with her and agreed she would not be able to deal with it. Her neighber calls her a neurotic bitch, as as he is old with health problems he relies on her for cleaning and shopping etc. Which is the main reason I wont confront her as she will take it out on him.
She is unemployed with her house up for sale. In debt to the neighber and others. A bit of a wino (she put 2 overflowing blue trays full of wine bottle out to the bins every 2 weeks. Has 2 big dogs that have no dicipline. Refuses to work and claims incapacity beneift, but yet has at least 2 fiddle jobs.and now is taking advantage of a really good neighber who has done nothing but help her.
Remedy for tonight. A big flat frying pan to whack againt the wall in case of any noise after midnight. ::)

Nothing a 12inch driver and 12 foot length of gas pipe wouldn't sort out :y
Note to those talking about double pwoer etc.....to double the sound output you need 10 times the power! :y (ow the joy of dB's)

When I was 22 ......I moved into a flat next to a single 19 year old girl.....who had lots of very noisy sex ....with a string of boyfriends.
Kept me awake all night .......for some strange reason. :D :D :y
I did'nt like to complain. ::) ::) :y
