is my transport for the weekend, an 08 plate Fiat Punto Grande 1.4 Auto, horrible slow lurching gearchanges, when pulling up at a junction etc you can feel the gearbox struggling to change down. I have considered getting a " SORRY " sign made and putting it in the drivers window to apologise for the inconvenience caused at roundabouts when you try to pull away. The symbols on the gear selector are as clear as the ancient writing in Predator vs Alien. This car has done 6000 miles and will not last long. Please OOFers, do not consider one of these. The only good thing is the spray pattern on the rear screenwash.

It was shit - the really rubbish one - a van as well, I tried to destroy it - it was crap - they upgraded to a Maestro then an Astra Van.
I managed to kill an Orion as I couldn't get the gear box to work as 1st went straight to 4th.
That job had some right shit as pool cars.

You've never tried either a Nissan Almera (only car to ever make me physically sick driving it - I told the hire company to swap it with ANYTHING and ended up with a Renauly Kangoo van which was much better) or a Toyota Corolla semi-automatic thingy - lurched the gearchanges like nothing on this earth and nearly gave me whiplash.
Only ever driven one Fiat and that was a Siecento - are the clutches supposed to be a switch?

I had an Escort van (bad move, seeing as every Escort I've ever driven I've crashed). I really did rag the nuts off that. 1.8 diesel, never used 4th or 5th gear - it slowed down too much - so drove everywhere in 3rd banging off the governor at 70mph. Theoretically wrote the bloody thing off 3 times, but they kept repairing it (head on, reversed into a lamppost and rippled the floor, and bent the A post on a tree).
The Focus we had, vastly improved handling, but still piss poor. It took me about 2yrs to realise the only way to get it to handle was to drive through that horrid instability barrier it has, and drive it at 100% all the time.

Put it this way at the job with the POS pool cars I was running an ancient Chrysler hatch and it was miles better - the gearbox actually worked :o

When I used to be a 'Service Engineer' had a range of Escort vans, Mk 1 and 2 and a Mark 3 Estate, 1600 engine was pretty quick.
Thought were all quite good for their time, loved the MK 2 Transit when it came out, so 'American' compared with the Mk1 :y :y :y
