As I type this my elite estate is in the garage either having a wheel bearing changed or an MOT done... :-/
I know it should be fine, I have checked over everything, the brakes are all ok (stripped and cleaned rears and fitted new handbrake cable), seems to steer fine and there are no clouds of smoke (unlike the Saab! :-[)
Yet I am still nervous as hell!
I feel like I want to be pacing up and down, awaiting the news... ::)
-
Good luck Dave, I'm sure it'll be fine. :y I know what you mean though - a bit like a father waiting in the maternity ward!! ::)
-
Always a nervous time Dave.
Must say tho' I always like to be present when the test's being done. Makes the tester a little more conscienscious I feel.
-
Good luck Dave, I'm sure it'll be fine :y what with all the work you've done in the run up to it.
-
Nice to see we're all only human after all! ;D
I think the set up over there for getting an MOT is very different from here, but I always dread it! :-[
-
Im sure all will be fine,
You men are all the same worry warts & make a mountain out of a mole hill ?
Altho i like to be there to see what they are doing :-?
GOOD LUCK

Know the feeling, had mine done last week, while I waited (must have smoked 20 fags).
-
yep me too muct have eaten 20 cigarettes whilst i awaited mine returning!!!
Well i dont know how to smoke :) ;D
sure it will be fine Dave.
-
Yep, good luck, not that you'll need it :y
-
I know that feeling .....
Especially about Wheel bearings....
despite not being mentioned by Auto data or Haynes, there is apparently a "special tool" for lining up the rear bearings on the estate....
if not used, they can tend to fail early... like a week to a month after fitting.... according to Gurney's ... our local VX dealership
they did however lend the tool to my local garage free of charge..... they just had to wait a couple of days for it...
While there, i'm also having a new HBV, EGR, and a thorough clean out, including the breathers and so on, and rear brake pads...
if they do this all well, and not bastardly expensively... I might get them to do the full suspension replacement I've got lined up for My Sintra.

I think the setup for MoTs is very different in Northern Ireland. At least we don't have to do the underframe clean here before we take it in over here! - If anyone has noticed the precarious ramps at garages in NI, thats what they're for.
I just take mine to a while you wait MoT only place now so I can do the pacing in the waiting room watching them do the test through the window.
Good luck with the ticket! Which garage have you taken it?

sure it will be fine Dave.
I wandered around bemoaning the fact that the best cars there were mine and a S&R Elite.
Oh and trying to get the service reception people to listen to me for retuning their TV and freeview box.
-
Any news dave did it pass :question
-
No news.....they havn't changed the wheel bearing yet (think a lack of knowledge is hindering the progress!)
-
Just a thought, Laidback nervous? Should he think about changing his name? ;)
-
I've found an excellent little place just south of Nottingham to be excellent for changing wheel bearings ;)
Which reminds me, Marks_DTM/Matchless, I still owe you for the hub...
-
Good luck with your MOT, I know the feeling as I went thru it on Monday, fingers crossed for you.
Pete
-
Did it pass then LB? you should know by now :-/.....it probably did and your down the pub celebrating :y
-
Home now.... and yes it passed! [smiley=2vrolijk_08.gif]
Not even a single advisory.
Would I trust them to work on my (or any other) car?
Not a chance! ;D
I arrived there at 5.15pm and they were trying to put the brake assembly back together... unsuccesfully!
I ended up showing them how to do it... ::)
Still, wheel bearing changed, MOT given, I am happy. :D
Now just the little matter of the MV6 to service at the weekend and a Carlsson to strip for parts! :(
-
:y

Excellent news !

Nice one 8-)

Cool, good to hear it passed :y

-
Excellent news - another one fighting fit :)
-
Nice one Dave :y :y
-
That's great news pal- happy days :y

Cool, good to hear it passed :y
So whats the news on the saab then?
Congrats LB :y
I was wondering about the saab too?
-
Excellent news! And mine just passed the MOT this afternoon :) - no advisory and the emissions were spot on. I had changed the rear shocks (leaking) and done the routine servicing bits, but there is always a little niggling worry until the tester comes through with the ticket!
-
Saab is a bin job apparantly..........

Oh dear :(
And i thought LB got himself a good one and a rare one too :-/
-
Possibly a good thing....it needed a lot of work....still, he enjoyed it for a while.

Perhaps he might like diesel merc c220 next time around.....i might know someone selling one ::)
-
TD. I had a E220 diesel Avant Garde as my replacement car when the Omega was written off 18 months ago. Very nice it was too, became quite fond of it (had it for 6 weeks while insurance company dithered!)
However, I do not one thank you very much. ;)
SWMBO has decided she wants a smallish diesel to replace the MV6 ::) as she is doing less mileage now. That is enough of diesels for me thanks.

So TDs Merc. would be ideal for her! :y
-
Somehow I suspect a slight disparity between what I have to spend on a diesel for her, and what TD wants for his Merc! ;D

Merc baiting is a hobby of mine......the drivers of them seem incapable of using indicators (probably broken knowing current Merc quality) or selecting the correct lane, sitting next to them on roundabouts and forcing them to miss there exit as a result is great fun.....
...it breaks the monotony of the drive home from work
-
Strangely enough Mark has never been put forward for any courteous driver awards... ;)

Same with those who hog lane 2 on dual carriageways. Your not allowed to undertake a car, but nothing about keeping pace with it.... Hard lines if he/she missed their exit because of it... [smiley=engel017.gif]

My indicators work fine on the merc thankyou......i know coz the mot place tested them 12 months ago :D

Like your way of thinking, but over here it's usually the BMW drivers who get the brunt of the abuse

Yep, its the repmobiles that never take the option extra of having indicators fitted. Around here, its the 3 series BMWs that have taken over from the Cavaliers/Vectra and Sierras/Mondeos.
