the Best 4X4Xfar has gone.....
I've migrated back the Vx and got 2 x Frontera'a now 1 is a 98 25TDS and the other is a 2.3 TD Diamond. Both need lees work than the Rangy and cost less to run.
Your thoughts from people who know the VM lump. same prob as the Tractor gutless over 2000rpm under load.

Had a Jeep Cherokee TD (VM lump).
I'm led to believe it started off life as a marine engine?
It's quite interesting in the sense that it has 4 seperate cylinder heads. Which can make things interesting when one of the heads cracks or the headgasket goes - the price of each individual head is quite steep, and when re-fitting the whole lot need skimming to do the job properly. (Yes, I know this from past experience!!)
Any problems with it starting can usually be attributed to the rubber fuel pipes which run between the injectors, or the blanking plug (on the last injector closest to the bulk head) being perished. Again, I know this from past experience!
But on the plus side, it was a pretty torquey lump, and it could tow our old 1800kg caravan effortlessly :y
