Title: Daughter's birthday gift
Post by: Nickbat on 25 January 2009, 14:20:34
We didn't go overboard at Christmas, instead promising or daughter a special present on her birthday next week. She told us she wants a TV/DVD for her bedroom (with Freeview). This would be very useful for us as parents as it might reduce the arguments with her younger sibling when they both want to watch different channels.

Anyhow, I've done some searching and I reckon this fits the bill. Not only does it also run on 12v (useful for going out) but it can also be used as a PC monitor (the next thing in the pipeline, methinks  :'(  ;))

Any thoughts?

Got an inbuilt PVR, too.  :y

Daughter did mention recording. I wonder how big a USB stick or SD card I would need for an hour-long programme?

Well, it arrived today.

In the end I got it from this seller, as it's a bit cheaper.

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/NEW-19-Portable-Freeview-LCD-TV-DVD-Player-Combi-Combo_W0QQitemZ220351656410QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_AudioTVElectronics

What a cracking TV! The picture is great, it's sturdy and has more connections than you could shake a stick at. Now, all I need is an SD card or maybe a USB HDD for recording...

Highly recommended!  :y :y

oh, yes, and the daughter's happy, too!

I let her have a little look at it (after I'd spent two hours playing with the controls myself whilst she was at school!  ;).).

Naah. Make it more spectacular. A pinhole in the insulation of the anode lead, just adjacent to the chassis, and then wait until she turns it on. ;D

Crack!

That should have it banished from the house sharpish.

i thought the memory slot was just for the playback of the media on them, is it actually for recording too then??

I just read the instructions (!). You can record to a mobile USB hard disc (the setup menu comes with a device format command). You can record on any partition (up to a max of 4 perr HDD). You can also record using the EPG.. However, you may be right... it may not be possible to record to an SD card.

Wizard bit of kit!  :y
