Title: Loosing the plot or what....
Post by: hotel21 on 04 February 2009, 20:42:40
Just searched the forum (by its own engine and by google) for a howtoo on changing the autobox fluid with no joy.

Did a manual rake through the various maint guides, FAQ etc and still not found one...   >:(

Is there one lurking somewhere that includes part numbers etc or am I just imagining things again?   :D

I thought there was a howtoo somewhere B but like you can't find the beggar.
If your an ABS member there's a guy who advertises the bits in there for about £30 iirc. His pinkness ordered some for me when I did mine.
Other than that I believe there's an OOF discount if you order from JPAT.

Cheers Cap'n.  At least theres a pair of us now...   ;)

Needing to do a change on one of the two in our family so will see if I manage to put one together when the snow goes...

Know the basic theory as to removing both sumps (carefully....) to drain.  Was thinking more on part numbers and how best to clear fluid using an airline or whatever from the non draining bits, pipework and cooler/radiator....   :)

I just used a bike pump to blow it through the oil cooler. Not much you can do about TC though (without removing box)

Killaspray full of ATF. Run fluid through cooler until it emerges fresh then reconnect pipes before it all drains out. Also a godsend for filling the sump afterwards.

Another vote for the chap in Straight 6 news. Filter and both sump gaskets in a kit for 30 quid ish.

Beware of the sump bolts. The threads in the gearbox casing are a bit weak, I found. Worth cleaning off the old threadlock with a tap and die before refitting and where the bolts emerge on top of the sump flange in the casting, clean away any debris that could get drawn into the threads from above. I had one of the threads in the casting give way on me.

I found myself phoning a made up phone number of a member tonight for assistance with a problem. I missed the preamble that should have warned me that it was a joke, I was preocupied with the thoughts of destroying my laptop. ;D ::) :-[
