Post by: Lazydocker on 03 February 2009, 23:10:39
Was going to fill up with LPG on the way out for our trip to Reading today... Pulled in to my local petrol station and the greedy gits have stuck the price up 5ppl overnight!  :o :o :o >:( >:( >:(

Needless to say I drove straight through and out the other side :y :y :y

Went from 48.9 to 53.9! If they did that with petrol there'd be uproar. Went on to a service station on the A12, a major trunk road, with no real competition nearby and paid 48.9 :y :y :y

I don't understand LPG garages' pricing policies. It's almost as if they suddenly decide that they don't want to sell any LPG this month so they price themselves out of the market.

Those who have LPG have invested considerable money to be able to use a cheaper fuel and thus are likely to be among the most cost sensitive of fuel buyers. They also tend to plan fillups due to limited availability and, in come cases, limited range.

When a garage does that I just don't go there any more. I have at least 3 LPG garages that I pass on a regular basis so the cheapest one gets the business. Simple as that. Sales must plummet when garages hike their prices like that. >:(

I have a cloice of 18 mile round trip at 47.9 or pass 51 on way to work.

Might use the 51p this week for the first time since Christmas.

I pass a couple on the way to work... The greedy robbing barstewards who have stuck 5ppl on overnight, who I now drive past and BP, who have stuck 2ppl on and are now at 51.9ppl.

I might have to trek to the ones the other side of Ipswich when I'm nearer to them ::) ::) ::)

TBH, I rarely go out of the way to fill up... Seems pointless ::) ::) ::)

Now that it's paid for I just enjoy the cheap fill ups :y :y :y

Still 47.9 tonight in Fleet - but I did top up the tank just in case that changes.

Yep... I'll need to fill up again before the end of the weekend... Done over 280 miles on the current tank, although predominantly motorway cruising at 70mph so should have another 70+ local miles left :y :y :y :y

It really hacks me off when they bang those sort of increases on to LPG, proportionally it's a far greater percentage increase than you see in a single rise in petrol prices.

Interestingly though my local LPG servicers (who sell LPG)  told me today they're looking to set up some sort of consortium and reduce the price by 4p per litre next month :y

Mind you that was just after he'd told me I need to replace the whole front end of my LPG installation. >:( >:(

no mention of bulk buying at a cheaper rate from wholesale supplier from anyone, is that not an option ? Hurd storys of farm suppliers and the like doing better prices for a lump sum in advance... If they dont go bust in the mean time of course.

Why not just get a big propane bottle, turn it upside down  and fill the car from that, just need the right fitting, bet it works out cheaper :) or conect directly up to a smaller bottle in the boot :y

Post by: Lazydocker on 05 February 2009, 08:22:16
Firstly because that would be dodging fuel duty, and I wouldn't do that ::) ::) ::)

But TBH it doesn't work out any cheaper. And you get all the crap out of the cylinder in the fuel system :o :o

used to drive me nuts when they put it up from 32ppl to 35!! but just a thing for you to mull over,
to get lpg to the pumps so thats all the refinieing mixing transport etc etc from out of the ground to the pump costs the fuel companys 22ppl, this is wy they keep putting prices up as the profit is huuuuge on lpg!!!

Hopefully they will lower the price again soon Run the 4.0 jeep on it and the elite is parked up in the workshop setup just needs a road test and check with comp for fine tuning of the lpg .
But we don't want it to get it dirty so will wait for all this muck to disappear.besides we won't get a good run with road conditions at the mo

LPG refers to Liquid Petroleum Gas, Autogas  refers specifically to LPG with Duty paid for use as a road fuel :y :y

Where exatly? Accoring to www.petrolprices.com 47.9 is the cheapes LPG in your area.
2 weeks ago petrol was 82.9 in Basingstoke. Suddenly BP went up to 86.9!! Shell kept 82.9 for a while but now it's 87.9 and going up. Every BP i've checked is 5p more expensive than any other petrol station.
If the petrol pricee went up, LPG will go as well.

At the moment there is only 39p difference between LPG and petrol which with LPG increased consumpion does not make great alternative to petrol. On every 100km savings are £2.7. It takes looooong time to get back £700-1500 for LPG conversion. :(

PetrolPrices only works with caard scheme users so garages which don't use them will never appear

weirdly, they list one garage by me for unleaded, but not for lpg?
