i really like my car, but on my steep hill with no grit and not much fuel, WHAT A DOG it has been the last few days. It's fine and great fun on the flat, but show it my road and game over. The only car to leave my road was a 4x4 flat bed so i may be being a little harsh i suppose
Sadly the car will be off soon as we emigrate to Canada in 2 weeks!
-
Its not good in the snow..........but it is good fun ;D ;D

dont think it makes much difference what you drive over there ,they know its gonna snow a lot so they have the correct gear to deal with it ,unlike us ,it seem like we get 1 snowflake and its panic stations
-
Well I have had no problems at all in my, daily drive, a Citroen C4 Grand Picasso 7 seater.
-
Crap.
That's how mine is in the snow.
2.0 Auto, WWD, and a fair bit of lowdown torque.
A little better when I had the 'hold' function on.

Nope
Wrong Wheel Drive >:(

Put some wieght in the boot
Many years ago I used to drive a Ford Transit for work, as a Service Engineer the van mostly just had tool and parts in it. I used to put 2 tea chests full of anything heavy in teh back to give it some weight in the snow, which we used to get most years. :y

You'll have to try to get WWD included in Glasses or Parkers as a new abreviation ........ :-?

We used to put a couple of semi circular concrete kerb edges on top of each rear wheel arch within the wooden boxes in the rear of the paddy waggons of the era to help traction....
-
When I worked for a haulage firm the fitters tranny used to have a crate of rubber borrowed from the warehouse installed to aid traction in the winter months. ;D
-
The Tranny van thats in my minds eye had the reg no KGB 893Y.....
Raised a few eyebrows in such a cold war type time as to why the local plod had a 'KGB' regno..... ;D
-
Rear wheel drive is great untill it snows

Careful B you'll have the pink one thinking he's Bond next.
-
when i was a cabbie in hemel in my trusty cortina i stuck 4 paving slabs in the boot which BT had kindly left in a pile whilst laying new cables or something outside the town hall, :),it done wonders as the orions, escorts & cavaliers that the others had all stayed at home cos they couldnt get about ;D
-
I wonderd where them slabs had gone
-
what you need is a 2 ton "yank tank" fwd with a effing great v8 over the drive wheels better than the "best 4x4 by far"(or all the ones i passed this morning) ;D...............................................................that should start a ruck with the 4wd brigade
-
snow modes rubbish. As is tc, far to slow, but it has kept of out of the ditch on a frosty morning.
Not driven a transit yet that had any unladen grip.
-
RWD will be ok if you have studded tires.. ::)
-
but I must note that last year miggy behaved very bad in mud..
was stuck until I switched the TC off .. >:(
-
It was fine, but I had a V8 engine block and a toolbox in the back plus 4-5psi removed from the rear wheels.
Worked really well.....450 miles covered so far this week.
Again, we can complain about the roads but, we should also prepare our cars also!
-
Thinking Subaru Forrester for the missus when we get to Canada, I will be going muscle car all the way (possibly the new Charger or a classic mustang), and snow tyres and chains ;)
The mig was really low on fuel, which definatly didn't help matters (19 on the range) that went to 4 when I knocked off the TC and gunned it, on the spot ::)

normally for the season I change all four to winter wheels ( ice type ;D ) and additionally as I hate chains (and never managed to use them properly :-[) I have two extra wheels which is studded in the back ready to change 8-)
but after clit when there is snow outside no problem..miggy stay clit on the road ;D

Chatting to my collegues in Norway, they have heavy duty COtton socks for the MS tyres which gives a massive grip improvement almost to the same level as Studded tyres!
Perhaps a buisness opportunity.....easy and quick to fit and get you out of trouble!

Yep!
-
We are so under prepared, over in C and a they go winter tyres and do very cheap under car treatment (must be waxoil I think) to protect from the 'grit' that doesn't run out after 2 days
Boris the baffoon was funny saying that snow plows (that attach to the gritters a la up north) are not financially viable, just after the reports of it costing London £2.5bn....really Boris t1t

Lol, miss-reported yet agin.
They have been gritting non stop for about the last 4-5 weeks, not 2 days!
And yes, I agree with him, you cant have 100K gritters with a maintenance cost of 10K per annum sat around just in case............unless YOU want to pay for that (which I am sure nobody does)
-
No I quite like the 2 free days off thanks :y for the sake of an extra days grit :D
-
The tractor was remarkably well behaved yesterday as I set out early to get to Reading. No gritting etc around here in the morning, but 1 lane of A43 had been snow ploughed - only had to go into the unploughed lane to get passed jacknifed lorries.
Weight in boot helps (I had to take some equipment), plus I always keep a full tank of fuel in this weather, and 16g of diesel isn't light. Don't bother with adjusting pressures in tyres.
The only trouble I had was getting back on my sloping driveway when I got back - less stuff in boot, and half a tank of fuel lighter....
-
Admittedly we haven't been hit as hard as other areas but my mig was fine... Just had to treat the loud pedal with respect and no problems at all :y :y :y Mind you, I have got the extra weight of full petrol tank and 90L LPG tank in the boot ::) ::)

chains are an absolute headache.. not easy to fit..
limit your speed..and damage your car :-/

It was fun, even my combo was :D

I live on quite a steep long hill. In the snow on Tues and Weds the car behaved brilliantly - reversed out, put in snow mode, pulled away up the hill with no issues. Newish tyres help no doubt....
By Thurs had had enough, so gave up. Did brush the snow of it today though.....
-
Get to work fine in the Cortina then drive an artic fine when i get there.
What's all the fuss about? ::)
-
Just taken my tractor out to the monthly ABS meet - knowing nobody would go, but neither Mrs TheBoy or I could be arsed to cook ourselves). Had one bit of sideways slippage, but would have to say it behaved impeccibly considering the conditions

I have no idea, lke a idiot i got it stuck on my mates lawn on Saturday morning, its sat there ever since unable to go anywhere near a road :-[

My mig is terrible in the snow, the rear is too damn lite :)

We were moving cars around and mine ended up on the lawn and your right it wasnt snow it got stuck in, it just buried the osr wheel in the grass, as its his lawn i didnt want to churn it up to much. Since then weve had all the snow and just to top it all off, severn trent came out yesterdsay and dug his drive up, so im well stuffed :(

Mine was absolutely horrible i went round a corner at 5mph with the snow mode on and TC on and still i ended up sideways with extremely light throttle and nearly whacked a fiat punto, i opted to take my van out instead as it was easier on the corners what with the 4x4 tyres on it :D ;D
-
i got to work on friday fine, even with the extra dumping of snow.
After i had a look through the garage i managed to find a spade and dig a path clear for the wheels.
But again here, no roads were gritted, main A43 partial ploughed but thats it, i had a full tank of fuel, which again helped.
Even with my 'plastic' tyres that a certain member loves so much, i managed to get myself to the train station about 10 miles away.
What i did on the estate roads was just stay in 2nd the whole time, i found changing down into first was a no-no as it sent the back end out, after that just went through the whole town in 2nd, built up some speed for the hills that was it.

i had no issues at all.....
full tank of fuel and an 80l LPg tank that was pretty full seemed to ensure i had enough traction :y
-
I don't know, I drove it last weekend & it's been sat in the garage all week & it'll be there for another week or so too ;)
