Title: Banks and Changes
Post by: Mr Skrunts on 06 February 2009, 14:20:21
I only have one credit card with a really low credit limit, I use this to buy my computer parts.

Anyway, due to illness etc, I allways set up a standing order in the case of there being a balance on the card to cover the minimum payment, in case I forget to pay it or am in a postion that I am laid up and cant be arsed to pay it.

Had a balance of approx £145 so after phoning up the company to get thier bank details they said the minimum payment was £10 so I set up a standing order a week in advance of the due date.

Then to be honest I comepletely forgot to pay the whole balance of as I am packing to move.  Checked the 1st few statements, all going well, balance dropped below £100 and the interest charged was negligible.  I then just put the next few statements to one side without checking as I saw the company through the envelope window.

WHAT A MISTAKE I MADE

Cheeky Sods uped the minimum payment on all cards from £10 to £25.  Which means the last 3 months I have had a £12 late fee added each month.  then the last statement I seem to have lost, they have created annother charge.

OK, my fault I know, but the sods dont miss a thing in the current climate to bring extra cash in.

It's worth having a chat with someone senior... As it's a genuine mistake they may use their discretion and common sense and refund the charges :-/ :-/

Worth a try anyway... You don't get anything without asking :y :y

Was a complete waste of a phone call, hope they recorded it though.  Told them it was out of order and they should allways inform us in writting of changes to terms and conditions.  After checking they said they had wriiten to me on the 24th September, funny I never recived that letter.

Have 2 joint accounts with Natwest, had them for almost thirty years.A few months ago I made a mistake and let one of them go overdrawn by £1.13 for 12 days, sure enough I got charged (£27 IIRC) on my next statement.I was well pissed off with myself and swore to be more careful in future. Then I got the next months statement and was very surprised to see that I had been charged again.I rang Natwest and was informed that the 12 day period when I was O.D. by £1.13 actually occured over 2 charging periods,i.e. the charging period runs from something like the 15th of one month to the 15th of the next.
I told the arrogant little tosser that we as a family have 6 accounts with them, have been customers for 30 years, the only reason that he and everyone else at Natwest (RBS group) was actually still employed rather than on the dole was because I and every other taxpayer in the country had involuntarily become majority shareholders in their very badly run bank, and asked him outright if he was authorised to cancel the charges,he refused to give me a straight answer to a straight question so I informed him that within the next couple of months, all 6 bank accounts would be closed and moved to other banks. He wasnt remotely bothered. So I am in the process of deciding which Bank to move to. >:( >:( >:(

That's why there are lots of companies challenging credit crad agreements and writing off balances - the banks have issued loads of unfair and unenforceable agreements and it is now coming home to roost, especially when they are clamping down on everyone.   Anyone interested in legally writing off their cards please pm me for details.

Too late now i know, but in future get them to set up a DD for minimum payment, i have on my card......that way it doesnt matter what the balance is....if you forget/carnt be arsed to pay them the full amount....its upto them to adjust the DD each month to cover min payment  :y

Thats a fair point, but the way my banking is structured, I pay a set ammount in weekly and keep a minimum balance and I pay eveyone by standing order then I know where I stand rather than them taking what they want by DD.

Imagine someone saying I had missed a payment and demanding the balabce be paid.  The minmum payment would then be the outstanding balance.  No thanks, I hear enough horror stories about banks.  The card will be paid off by the end of the month.  and then never used gain.

Ther are some rules which are set in stone and others that seem to be discretionary. I watched a programme on telly last year where people who went over their overdraft limit were cherged, say £35.
That was unless they phoned to complain AND had more than £5000 in a savings account, in which case it was more often than not waived.
So..get five grand saved up and you'll be laughing. :y
