I have had a very kind offer of some de-cat pipes for my Senator, from the description they sound easy enough to fit.
What kind of benefits can I expect by removing the cats? Better mpg / performance ??
Luckily Senators don't need cats to pass the MOT :D

I wouldnt be surprised if it lowers the peformance or makes it run like a dog.....might well need a little back pressure to get a good lambda reading....

If it's pre 'K' plate, it won't need cat's.
Mark's right about the need for some back pressure in standard form, but if you're going to put the ABS chip in it, then that cancels out the requirement for it.
Only de-cat it if you're putting that chip in it.
On the subject of 'the chip', don't be expecting some overnight transformation into some sort of salivating Lamborghini eater. The work that was done on developing the chip was primarily to improve the power and torque curves of the engine overall, allow for a more progressive effect when the DR operates at 4k RPM and some work on the WOT maps. It will give a slight improvement in performance, but not what you might expect from a superchip or something of that ilk.
The Motronic 1.5 ECU isn't the most advanced management system and has limits on what can be improved.

I would concentrate on getting it running properly first - that should give it a noticible performance improvement...

Already got an oil filter, its getting a change first thing on Saturday. Also the ICV as well, and possibly a set of plugs :)

The dealer in Southall seams very good going to enquire about a car-pass tomorrow, as the factory HU should do the job.

Reminds me, I entirely forgot about asking at MK for Senny oil filters - it had already been a long day, and that was 9:15am!

I've got a spare oil filter for the Senator.
Tunnie. Don't even think about chips, decat pipes or anything else until the engine is running as it should be.
Set of plugs, oil and filter (remember very short change on this first one), fuel filter, check the leads (I have spares) and especially the cap and rotor arm.
With Jaime's assistance I think it will all be sorted. When running properly you will be impressed at just how smooth the engine is, especially at tickover (I had one you could not tell the engine was running at tickover in the car. You could neither hear of feel it).

That isn't Monorep by any chance is it? I use them quite a lot and find them very good. Did you know that they also have a branch in Hayes on Yeading Lane?

Yes i saw that on the Vauxhall site, but their phone just rang out and out. I was impressed by the Southall place.
LB66 - Thanks for very kind offer, however since the filter is only £2.41 at trade, thats likely to be more than postage!
Yep, noted i need a quick change. Going to change it this weekend, drive around a bit & come back to uni in it. Get a new filter and go back home at the weekend, and then give it another change.
Leads already checked (btw they are original red leads) cap and rotor arm have been removed and cleaned, all good.
However there is a ticking sound which sounds like injectors / plugs. Graham is going to get me a set of plugs and hope to have them replaced this weekend it.
However idle is a bit lumpy even after a warm start. Its "entertaining" to say the least to fit it in the garage, as there is a "lip" to get in. The back wheels bounced off and i gave it a tiny amount of gas, but jumped to 1k revs where it stayed!! Hard on the brakes, still edging forward :o
Popped it into N, more gas and it then would idle ok.
Graham very kindly gave me an old hayes book of lies, going to read though that on how to clean the ICV.

Hi Tunnie,
I think you'll find that your car being a K reg. means it was registered August 92 onwards meaning it has to have cats fitted for MOT.
Of course you could always remove them between MOTs.
As LB said when they are running well they are incredibly quite remembering when i went to look at mine i was stood next to the front of the car and asked the owner if he could start it up and he said it was already running :o.

Big Rod said PRE K reg. Your car will need it's cat's to pass the MOT. I ran my Senator with the original ECU and cat replacement pipe but with no restrictions in them. I didn't have any problems.
