Title: Does noone do a search on a topic before posting??
Post by: vauxfan2k on 11 February 2009, 20:51:09
Ok either im grumpy or fed up seeing the same posts over and over

eg. code readers off egay.. or paperclip test... yadda yadda

I know in the past I have searched for some topics and not had any luck, knowing fine well that they have been covered many times, But I still look first!

It seems either the search engine part of this particular forum software (not limited to this forum in particular) is pretty limited, OR people just cant be arsed looking something up..

enlighten me please...

Sometimes wish more folks would have a wee looksee in the guide/howtoo sections.  There is a wealth of very good, accurate, information held there that has taken no small effort from ALL OOFers in times passed for the benefit of the newcomers (and sometimes, not so newcomers)...   ;)

I appreciate that it does annoy but, would the forum have grown so big and imformative if everyone had just used the how to's and not started threads to ask the question....?

Also a lot of people do read them and then post anyway for further clarification....

A question may be asked & answered 6 months ago therefore buried pages back. An old question is a new one to some & it saves trawling.

Too be fair sometimes you cant see something for looking...esp when your frustrated or anxious.

And maybe its just me but i find the search function on this site terrible...visit many other sites and never a problem only here. :-X

A full site search can be done VERY quickly, and without hitting the server at all .. by using the "Advanced Search" option on Google ...

then type the search words into the top box and in the BOTTOM box enter

www.omegaowners.com

works really well .... so well you will have to learn how to describe your request properly .....   :)

not all pages in google though - although we submit 10s of thousands of urls every day, we tend to have around 10 - 20k pages indexed at any one point in time...
